| O zooplâncton do reservatório de Mundaú, Pernambuco, nordeste do Brasil foi estudado quanto a variabilidade temporal (entre os horários e períodos seco chuvoso) e espacial (nas regiões pelágica e litorânea em diferentes profundidades) correlacionando-as com as variáveis ambientais e com o fitoplâncton. Vinte e três táxons infragenéricos e cinco subgenéricos de zooplâncton foram encontrados. De forma geral, Rotifera foi o grupo dominante em todo o estudo. O fitoplâncton foi dominado pelas cianobactérias. No período seco, as variáveis físicas certamente controlaram o desenvolvimento do zooplâncton, favorecendo o estabelecimento de elevadas densidades algais. | The aim of this study was to characterize phytoplankton associations, as well as discuss controlling factors determining algal dominance in a eutrophic tropical reservoir, Mundaú, Pernambuco, Brazil. Water samples were collected during the dry period (January/2005) and the rainy period (June/2005). The samples were collected from both limnetic and littoral regions, and the phytoplankton assemblages identified from current literature after preservation in formaldehyde 4%. At the same time as sampling was done, in situ measurements of water temperature, transparency, dissolved oxygen, and pH were also taken. | The aim of this study was to determine how abiotic factors drive the phytoplankton community in a water supply reservoir within short sampling intervals. Samples were collected at the subsurface (0.1 m) and bottom of limnetic (8 m) and littoral (2 m) zones in both the dry and rainy seasons. The following abiotic variables were analyzed: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, pH, total nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, total phosphorus, total dissolved phosphorus and orthophosphate. | Manguezais caracterizam-se por apresentarem amplas variações ambientais (principalmente de salinidade, irradiância e teor de oxigênio) e possuírem substrato relativamente instável, o que exige adaptações específicas dos organismos para habitar com sucesso este ambiente. O presente estudo procura, principalmente, contribuir com o conhecimento da biodiversidade, através da realização do levantamento da flora de cianobactérias habitantes de Manguezais do Estado de Pernambuco. | This study investigated the dynamics of cyanobacteria in two deep, eutrophic reservoirs in a semi-arid region of Brazil during periods of stratification and destratification. Four collections were carried out at each reservoir at two depths at three-month intervals. The following abiotic variables were analyzed: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, water transparency, total phosphorus, total dissolved phosphorus, orthophosphate and total nitrogen. | This work investigated the effects of co-occurring aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and microcystin (MC) in aquaculture, using immunohistochemistry and genotoxicity methods. Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were exposed to AFB1 by intraperitoneal and MC (cell extract of Microcystis aeruginosa) by intraperitoneal and immersion routes. The interaction of MC-AFB1 was evaluated co-exposing the intraperitoneal doses. Blood samples were collected after 8, 24, and 48h to analyze the micronucleus frequency and comet score. The interaction of MC-AFB1 showed a synergic mutagenic response by higher micronucleus frequency of co-exposed group. A slight genotoxic synergism was also observed in the comet score.
