| To quantify the radiographic parameters of the caudal vena cava (CVC) in healthy cattle and demonstrate their clinical usefulness, the present study compared the ratios of the diameter of the thoracic CVC to the diameter of the aorta (Ao) and length of the thoracic vertebrae (VL), which are all positioned in the same intercostal space, in 81 healthy control cattle (43 growing, 38 adult) and 10 cattle with heart disease. The average diameter of the CVC (CVCave) was correlated with the size of the Ao and VL in the control cows. | 1 歳10 カ月のホルスタイン種育成雌牛が，初診時食欲不振，削痩，チアノーゼ，肺音粗励，発咳等の症状を呈した． さらに第14病日には頻脈，頸静脈拍動等の循環器症状が認められた．血液および血液生化学検査により慢性炎症像が， また心エコー検査により右心房内に三尖弁と付着しない高エコー占拠性病変が観察された．本症例は病理解剖により後 大静脈血栓症と診断されたが，血栓が心臓内において描出されたまれな症例と思われた． A 22-month-old，Holstein heifer was presented with anorexia，emaciation，cyanosis，rough vesicular breathing， and coughing on the first day. On day 14， cardiovascular symptoms such as tachycardia and jugular vein pulsation were found. A blood and blood biochemical examination revealed chronic inflammation. High echogenic obstruction without any attachment to the tricuspid valve was observed in the right atrium by echocardiograph. | 2歳5カ月齢ホルスタイン雌乳牛が胸垂冷性浮腫，頸静脈拍動を呈し，心音聴取困難および心電図各波低電位所見から拡張型心筋症が疑われた．右胸腔には赤色変性性漏出液が多量に貯留しており，また超音波検査により心嚢水貯留を認めた．病理解剖の結果，心嚢は直径60cm大に腫大して血様心嚢水の貯留を認めたが，炎症あるいは腫瘍は認められず，血様心嚢水貯留の原因については不明であった．ただし右肩部に壊死巣を認めたことから，転倒等胸腔に強い衝撃を受けた可能性があると考えられた．心嚢水貯留が認められる場合には，心嚢腔内への出血も考慮すべき疾病のひとつであることが考えられた． A Holstein cow (two years and five months old) with jugular vein distension and non-inflammatory edema in the brisket showed decreased heart sound and abnormal waves on an electrocardiogram.
