Self-incompatibility found in a Eucalyptus grandis clone was used to promote interspecific hybridization between E. grandis and E. urophylla clones. The interspecific hybridization achieved in an open-pollinated commercial seed orchard planted in Espírito Santo, Brazil was evaluated by the multi-locus outcrossing rate (tm) of the seed producing clone, E. grandis. The percentage of outcrossed seeds reached 95.9%. The outcrossing rate of individual trees was quite variable, but was always above 70.0%. Wright's coefficient was negative (F = -0.30) revealing an excess of heterozygous genotypes in the progeny. Genetic parameters confirmed the high degree of hybridization expected in this orchard. The 800-m wide protection belt of native tropical forest that... |

The objective of this work was to evaluate root and nodule soybean lipoxygenases in Doko cultivar and in a near isogenic line lacking seed lipoxygenases, inoculated and uninoculated with Bradyrhizobium elkanii. The lipoxygenase activities from roots collected at 3, 5, 9, 13, 18 and 28 days post-inoculation and from nodules collected at 13, 18 and 28 days post-inoculation were measured. The pH-activity profiles from root and nodules suggested that the lipoxygenases pool expressed in these organs from Doko cultivar and triple-null near isogenic lines are similar. The root lipoxygenase activity of Doko and triple-null lines, inoculated and uninoculated, reduced over time. The highest lipoxygenase activity observed at the beginning of root formation suggests... |

Abstract The propagation of many passion fruit species (Passiflora spp.) is done by seeds or sexual method, although asexual propagation, such stem cuttings, grafting or tissue culture is also possible and very useful in many cases. In this work, it was presented information on scientific and technological advances in sexual and asexual propagation of passion fruit, considering the different propagation methods and their applications. New demands for research and development activities are also related, given the wide range of passion fruit species and its potential for food, ornamental and medicinal use. |
