Nouvelle approche dans l'etude de la dynamique sedimentaire des estuaires macrotidaux a faible debit fluvial ArchiMer
L'Yavanc, J; Bassoullet, P.
The short estuaries located on the English Channel and Atlantic coasts are distinguished by short-lived flood peaks and a very small average water discharge. Affected by large tide ranges during spring tides, they exhibit very different hydrosedimentological characteristics with low fluvial sediment input compared to marine sediment input. The formulation of a mathematical model for cohesive suspended matter transport and bottom evolution has necessitated a comparative study of bathymetric data and the recording of seasonal sediment movement in the Morlaix estuary.

PESCA-JALONS-PORNIC. Etude sédimentaire de l'estran conchylicole en Baie de Bourgneuf ArchiMer
Grossel, Hubert; Aujoulat, Valerie; L'Yavanc, J; Ratiskol, Gilles.
Plans for dredging the Noéveillard port in Pornic in early 1996 sparked great concern among oyster farmers in the Bernerie and Moutiers sectors of Bourgneuf Bay. Although many precautions were taken and imposed during the dredging operations, the Loire-Atlantique prefecture called upon Ifremer to set up a sedimentological study in immediate and proximate areas in order to have hard data on hand if accidental silting up, natural or not, were to occur. In the course of various meetings, Ifremer always expressed reservation on how sedimentological data could be interpreted. In fact, additional sediment input from dredging, compared with that from the natural flux of particulate matter in suspension, appears to be low and is therefore difficult to quantify....

Observations de courant en Baie de Seine ArchiMer
Lehir, P; L'Yavanc, J.
Results of long-term current measurements in the Seine Bay are presented: (1) tidal flow and propagation of the tide across the bay; (2) ability to predict tidal currents from previous measurements by the means of harmonic analysis; (3) identification of residual flow factors according to a principal component analysis in a complex space; (4) description of the tidal residual flow with large eddies; (5) demonstration of wind effects on currents.
