The assessment of the angiosperm quality element (Zostera noltei) for transitional water body (here, FRFT8 Bidassoa) considers the monitoring of 3 metrics: the taxinomic composition, the spatial bed extent and the abundance (percentage cover). In 2017, the angiosperm quality element for FRFT8 Bidassoa was “good” as in 2015 and 2016. This result is due to a better percentage of seagrass cover. However, the spatial extent of seagrass continuously change, with new colonized areas.

En 2007, le CIDPMEM 64-40 (alors CLPMEM de Bayonne), avait porté une étude sur le poids socio-économique de la filière pêche du quartier maritime de Bayonne. Elle avait permis de décrire le système halieutique local et de quantifier l’impact économique et social de l’activité de pêche sur le territoire par la quantification des flux monétaires entre acteurs et la quantification des emplois générés par l’activité de pêche. Même si les indicateurs définis lors cette précédente étude font toujours référence, le contexte de la filière a très sensiblement évolué en 10 ans et il est apparu indispensable non seulement de mettre à jour les différents indicateurs mais aussi de s'intéresser à des focus particuliers. Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are generally considered as one of the most important tools, among the many regulations, designed to preserve marine resources as well as enhance fisheries. In the southern Bay of Biscay, local French fishermen requested creation of a restricted area to help settle disputes between the various métiers operating there. This restricted area, which lies mainly in French waters, covers part of a deep submarine canyon off the French and Spanish coasts, known to have a large population of mature hake. This work aims to summarize the work carried out in the framework of surveys in subtidal environment on the French Basque coast in 2017. The course of this campaign is presented as well as the various data collected making it possible to establish a balance sheet. The latter refers to the fact that only one of the three targeted steps could be correctly sampled from a biological and ecological point of view. The analysis of the difficulties encountered during these investigations will make it possible to reframe the implementation of the protocol in order to best meet the objectives originally set during the 2018 sampling program.

Le projet IDHEBARC s’intéresse à l’impact potentiel des travaux maritimes (nettoyage des friches ostréicoles, dragage des ports, …) sur les herbiers de zostères du Bassin d’Arcachon. Ce projet pluriannuel comporte des actions de modélisation hydrosédimentaire visant à cartographier l’intensité des impacts potentiels, et un suivi de l’évolution de l’emprise et du recouvrement des herbiers et de la composition de leur fond sédimentaire. Ce rapport présente les premiers résultats du suivi réalisé dans le secteur de La Teste de Buch (Bassin d’Arcachon) où des travaux de dragage devraient être réalisés en 2020

This document present the whiting part of the study Striped red mullet (Mullus surmuletus), whiting (Merlangius merlangus) and pollack (Pollachius pollachius) are three species for which individualization of stocks is advanced by ICES in western Europe for areas including the Bay of Biscay and the areas bordering the Iberian peninsula. Since 2012, ICES has provided recommendations with regards to these stocks. These recommendations are given for two‐year periods and are based on an approach adopted by ICES in 2012 in the case of insufficient data for an analytical evaluation (Data Limited Stocks, DLS). Optimization of a survey using spatially balanced sampling: a single-year application of clam monitoring in the Arcachon Bay (SW France) ArchiMer

Bivalves are important components of benthic marine and freshwater ecosystems throughout the world. One of the most exploited bivalves used for human consumption is manila clam (Venerupis philippinarum). In Arcachon Bay (SW France), commercial fishers and scientists have developed a monitoring survey to estimate clam stocks to assist in implementing a sustainable management strategy. The survey design that is currently used is based on standard stratified random sampling (StRS). The survey has been undertaken every 2 years since 2006. The sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus is an important exploited resource on the Mediterranean coast and has been the subject of much research. In the Bay of Biscay, the situation is different, as some studies have been conducted on the Spanish Basque coast but few on the French part of that coast. However, the Basque coast offers favourable conditions for the development of this species, and its exploitation could be a source of potential diversification for fishermen, especially in the context of difficulties with some other resources. Descartes 2 propose la mise au point et l'optimisation de protocoles d'échantillonnage qualifiant les biocénoses marines et des ressources halieutiques d'intérêt régional sur deux types de milieux aquitains : la côte basque rocheuse et le bassin d'Arcachon. Tester et définir des méthodes d'échantillonnage fiables, applicables en routine et transférables, requièrent une phase de recherche impliquant des compétences en mathématiques, hydrodynamique, sciences du vivant. Le calcul de l’indicateur angiospermes dans la masse d’eau FRFC09 – Lac d’Hossegor est basé sur le suivi de trois métriques (composition, extension, abondance) des deux espèces de zostères présentes dans le Lac : Zostera noltei et Zostera marina. Les résultats obtenus jusqu’en 2019 permettent d’affecter une « bonne qualité »à cette masse d’eau vis-à-vis de cet indicateur.

Suivi DCE du paramètre « macroalgues subtidales » dans la masse d’eau « côte basque » ArchiMer

Since 2008, the parameter “macroalgae subtidales” is calculated on 3 stations of the water mass FRFC11 Basque coast. In the second cycle of WDF monitoring, complementary metrics are calculated as for the entire Channel / Atlantic facade. These metrics were measured for the second time in 2017 and aim to optimize the information collected to assess the ecological status of water bodies but also to characterize the functionality of the ecosystem. The calculation of the Ecological Quality Ratio (EQR) makes it possible to classify this water mass in “Good” as the previous campaigns with a tendency to improve the rating during the whole period.

Pièces calcifiées utilisées pour estimer l'âge des principales espèces de poissons du sud du golfe de Gascogne ArchiMer

Ce poster présente les pièces calcifiées utilisées pour estimer l'âge des principales espèces de poissons du sud du golfe de Gascogne. La sclérochronologie, du grec “scleros” = pièces dures, “chronos” = temps, “logos” = étude, est la discipline s’intéressant à la croissance des organismes. Chez les poissons osseux, les estimations d’âge sont réalisées à partir de leurs pièces calcifiées et chaque année, ce sont quelques 35 000 pièces qui sont traitées par l’institut Ifremer. Pour la majorité des espèces, l’otolithe, composant de l’oreille interne, est la pièce calcifiée utilisée.

Under the WFD monitoring, the intertidal macroalga parameter of the water body FRFC11 « coast Basque », two stations were sampled in 2015 from the appropriate protocol for this water body. The average of the two stations takes the water body in « Good ». Both stations get very similar results but are not classified in the same category: « Good » . The abundance of opportunistic species is the worst notation. The comparison with results for subtidal macroalgae is consistent. Also, for intertidal macroalgae on Spanich Basque waterbodies results are very similar.

Update of whiting abundance indices from professional fishing data (2016-2018) ArchiMer

The ROMELIGO project included a proposal of abundance indicators for whg-89a stock using professional fishing data. The methodolgy is based on the selection of a sample of representative vessels grouped in a cluster with the same technical characteristics, taking into account their LPUE for specifed period and area. The analysis was conducted on an historical dataset from 2010 to 2015. To be able to update it, a conditional decision tree was used to find rules to assign any new vessels to one of the predefined OTB clusters. Then, the trends of LPUE on the overall period were considered. In recent years, the north shows low levels, but the decrease is not significant over the whole period (Pearson test).
