| ABSTRACT Lygophis flavifrenatus Cope, 1862 is a terrestrial dispsadid distributed in subtropical Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina. Herein, we present data on sexual dimorphism and reproductive biology of this very poorly studied species. A total of 108 specimens (55 females, 50 males, three hatchlings with unidentified sex) from Brazilian states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul were analyzed. Sexual dimorphism by size, body dimensions (tail length, head length, head width) and a number of ventral and subcaudal scales is not well marked in the species. | ABSTRACT The phytotelm-dwelling frogs from the genus Phyllodytes Wagler, 1830 have been characterized as specialist frogs regarding their diet strategy which is mainly composed by colonial insects. Herein, we used two species of ants (Camponotus sp. and Gnamptogenys sp.) with distinct defensive mechanisms to test the predatory behavior of Phyllodytes luteolus Wied, 1824. The experiment was conducted with frogs inhabiting a patch of 20 bromeliads (Aechmea cf. blanchetiana). Ants were offered randomly to the frogs until we obtained ten observations of predation of each ant species. | Em sala climatizada no Ranário Experimental da Fundação Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (REURG), quatro moscários foram preparados, colocando-se em cada um cerca de 5000 pupas de Musca domestica. Após o nascimento das moscas, cada moscário recebeu, além das bandejas com alimento (açúcar e leite), uma bandeja com substrato para postura, constituído de farelo de trigo umedecido. Diariamente os substratos para postura foram homogeneizados e distribuídos entre 15 bandejas pequenas, acondicionadas em estufas climatizadas e submetidos a uma combinação de cinco temperaturas (20, 23, 26, 29 e 32ºC) e três substratos para a produção de larvas (farelos de arroz, de trigo e de soja). | This is the first record in the wild of occurrence of four carp species (bighead Aristichthys nobilis (Richardson, 1845), common Cyprinus carpio carpio Linnaeus, 1758, silver Hypophthalmichthys molitrix (Valenciennes, 1844), and grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idellus (Valenciennes, 1844)) in the Mirim Lagoon and Patos Lagoon estuary. Our findings reinforce the hypothesis that during periods of elevated rainfall and freshwater discharge, exotic species could be easily transported from overflowed ponds and lakes into the Mirim-Patos Lagoon and then estuarine area. |

| Este trabalho avaliou do impacto da pesca do camarão-rosa Farfantepenaeus paulensis (Perez-Farfante, 1967) sobre a assembléia de peixes e crustáceos do Parque Nacional da Lagoa do Peixe. Constatou-se que, em média, a composição nas capturas da pesca do camarão-rosa, com a arte de pesca aviãozinho, é semelhantes àquelas descrita em para outros estuários do Rio Grande do Sul, quando considerada apenas a proporção das grandes categorias analisadas (espécie alvo - camarão-rosa 53%: captura acessória 24%: rejeito 23%). A composição da fauna acompanhante (captura acessória + rejeito) apresente diferenças pronunciadas ao longo do gradiente salino da laguna. | Este trabalho analisou a distribuição espacial e a abundância relativa da ictiofauna ao longo do gradiente salino do Parque Nacional da Lagoa do Peixe. Em função de apresentar uma barra intermitente, que permite a entrada de água salgada dentro de um sistema alimentado constantemente por água de baixa salinidade, proveniente de banhados e arroios, a Lagoa do Peixe apresentou uma ictiofauna composta de espécies límnicas, estuarino-relacionadas e marinhas. Baseado na composição específica da ictiofauna, a Lagoa pode ser compartimentada em quatro subsistemas: pré-límnico raso, pré-límnico profundo, estuarino raso e estuarino profundo. | The loss and modification of habitats by humans have been considered key factors in the decline of diversity of species worldwide. However, the real effect caused by these disturbances on the biota is still poorly understood. The assessment of the changes in the network of interspecific interactions, such as predation rates on the native fauna, can be an important tool to diagnose the functionality of disturbed ecosystems. | We surveyed the herpetofauna from the Complex of Planalto da Ibiapaba (CPI), CE, Brazil, during two years, using five sampling methods and information available in the literature. The amphibians are represented by 38 species distributed into nine families. The reptiles found summed 84 species, distributed into 25 families. Most amphibians collected exhibited wide occurrence along CPI, where we recorded 24 species (63.2%), which occurred at least in 60% of the sampled environments. Reptiles showed a different pattern, since 52 species (62.6%) had a restricted distribution (up to two environments). | The state of Piauí is located between the Caatinga and Cerrado biomes in Northeastern Brazil, having a rich heterogeneity of habitats. However, publications regarding the amphibians of this state are scarce. We compiled literature data and complemented it with amphibian inventories in some municipalities of Piauí and present a list of 55 species (54 anurans and one caecilian).
