DNA Barcoding revealing the occurrence of Isarachnanthus (Cnidaria; Anthozoa; eriantharia) in Cape Verde Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Stampar,Sérgio Nascimento; Lopes,Celine S.S.; Angelis,Stefany Archangelo de; Morandini,André Carrara.
ABSTRACT The occurrence of Isarachnanthus Carlgren, 1924 (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Ceriantharia) specimens in Cape Verde Islands is recorded. Identification of the tube anemone species Isarachnanthus maderensis (Johnson, 1861) was possible based on DNA Barcoding. A discussion on biogeographic patterns associated with ocean circulation and life cycle is presented.

A survey of the Scyphozoa and Cubozoa (Cnidaria, Medusozoa) from the Ceará coast (NE Brazil) Biota Neotropica
Morandini,André Carrara; Soares,Marcelo de Oliveira; Matthews-Cascon,Helena; Marques,Antonio Carlos.
Most of the scyphozoans and cubozoans recorded for the Brazilian coast are presumed to be distributed over the entire coastline, but little information on precise records is available. This paper presents the first published records for the Ceará state (northeastern region) of the cubozoan Chiropsalmus quadrumanus, and the scyphozoans Chrysaora lactea, Linuche unguiculata (polyp), Lychnorhiza lucerna, Nausithoe sp. (polyp), Phyllorhiza punctata, and Stomolophus meleagris. The medusoid species have been known by local fishermen and non-specialists for a long time in the area.

On the occurrence of scyphozoan ephyrae (Cnidaria, Scyphozoa, Semaeostomeae and Rhizostomeae) in the southeastern Brazilian coast Biota Neotropica
Tronolone,Valquiria Baddini; Morandini,André Carrara; Migotto,Alvaro Esteves.
The occurrence of ephyrae of the scyphozoan orders Semaeostomeae and Rhizostomeae is reported for the first time for the Brazilian coast. The specimens, caught in plankton tows in the São Sebastião Channel and the Cananéia lagoon estuarine system, are: Chrysaora lactea (Semaeostomeae), Phyllorhiza punctata (Rhizostomeae), and an unidentified species of Pelagia (Semaeostomeae). A table with all species of scyphozoan with the known life cycle is provided.

Polyps of the families Atorellidae and Nausithoidae (Scyphozoa: Coronatae) new to the brazilian fauna Biota Neotropica
Jarms,Gerhard; Morandini,André Carrara; Silveira,Fábio Lang da.
Solitary scyphistomae of the scyphozoan order Coronatae were sorted from samples collected at 12 oceanographic stations of the Revizee-Score Sul/Bentos project along the Brazilian coast. The 201 specimens were found, at depths between 133-808 m, growing on stony corals. These scyphistomae were assigned to the families Nausithoidae (186) and Atorellidae (15) based on the outer morphology of the periderm tubes. The number and shape of the cusps, and the presence of second order teeth in some of them, suggests that the polyps should be split into four types, two of them assigned to Nausithoe Kölliker, 1853 and two others to Atorella Vanhöffen, 1902. Living stephanoscyphistomae should be collected and reared to further resolve the taxonomy of these scyphozoans.

Experiments in nature and laboratory observations with Nausithoe aurea (Scyphozoa: Coronatae) support the concept of perennation by tissue saving and confirm dormancy Biota Neotropica
Silveira,Fábio Lang da; Jarms,Gerhard; Morandini,André Carrara.
Stephanocyphistomae of Nausithoe aurea from São Paulo State, Brazil (in subtropical western South Atlantic wa-ters), were relocated with their substrata in nature to study their survivorship under control and and experimental series - i.e. the polyps in the original orientation and inverted, and in each series exposed and buried polyps. We found that N. aurea survives over 13 months in nature, between 1/3 - 1/4 of 268 stephanoscyphistomae as normal feeding polyps, by segmentation produces planuloids and rejuvenates the polyps - an additional explanation for clustering of the solitary stephanocyphistomae. Dormant living tissues within the periderm of the tube were considered resting stages. The results support the concept that coronates in general have the...
