A new species of porcellanid crab, Polyonyx vermicola, belonging to the P. sinensis group is described from Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia. The species is an obligate commensal of tubes of the chaetopterid worm Sasekumaria selangora Rullier, 1976 (Polychaeta). Polyonyx vermicola is differentiated from all congeners by its small size, possessing a more rectangular carapace, proportionately longer carpus on the larger cheliped, strongly gaping cheliped fingers, the tips of which are turned outwards, the outer surface of each cheliped fingers lined with a row of small granules, and having the ventral margin of the third ambulatory propodus armed with strong spinules. |

Crustacean subfossils from the Jambusan Caves in Bau (Sarawak), collected by the late A.H. Everett are assigned to two relatively large species of potamid freshwater crabs (Brachyura) that are still extant in the area, viz. Isolapotamon bauense Ng, 1987 and I. consobrinum (De Man, 1899). While I. bauense is known to occur naturally in the caves, I. consobrinum is a primarily riverine species. On the basis of the available archaeological evidence, the two species were probably collected for food by early human inhabitants of Sarawak. Characters that are useful to identify the chelae and fingers of Bornean freshwater crabs are also discussed. |

Two new species of sesarmid crabs are described from the mangroves of Timika in Papua (= Irian Jaya), Indonesia. Haberma kamora spec. nov. is the second species in the genus described from Singapore, differing from the type species in the form of its male first pleopods and possessing relatively more slender ambulatory legs. Parasesarma charis spec. nov. resembles P. erythrodactyla, P. tripectinis and to some extent, P. lepidum, but has different ambulatory leg proportions and a distinctive male first pleopod structure. Parasesarma acis Davie, 1993, is regarded as a junior synonym of P. tripectinis Shen, 1940. |

A new species of freshwater palaemonid prawn, Macrobrachium oxyphilus spec, nov., is described from highly acidic blackwaters in a peat swamp forest in Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia. The species differs from its nearest congener, M. trompii (de Man, 1898), in having proportionately smaller eyes, shorter scaphocerites, a lesser number of ventral rostral teeth, a more inflated carapace, and less pubescent and more spiniferous chelipeds. |

A new genus of parthenopid crab, Garthambrus gen. nov., characterised by a broad carapace with strongly raised branchial and gastric regions, distinctive rostrum, sub-cylindrical ambulatory meri and a long distal segment of the second male pleopod, is established for six deep water species from various parts of the Pacific. A new species, Garthambrus posidon spec, nov., is also described from depths of between 480 to 600 m off the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. It differs from its closest congener, G. poupini (Garth, 1993), in having a proportionately broader carapace, less granulated carapace and chelipedal surfaces, and in the form of the carapace regions. |
