Leptospirosis serosurvey in bovines from Brazilian Pantanal using IGG ELISA with recombinant protein LipL32 and microscopic agglutination test BJM
Tomich,Renata Graça Pinto; Bomfim,Maria Rosa Quaresma; Koury,Matilde Cota; Pellegrin,Aiesca Oliveira; Pellegrin,Luiz Alberto; Ko,Albert Icksang; Barbosa-Stancioli,Edel Figueiredo.
This investigation was carried out in Brazilian Pantanal: region with important biodiversity. This region's climatic conditions, hydrology and geomorphology as well as the existence of great variety of wild species favor the maintenance of the Leptospira in the environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate IgG ELISA with recombinant protein LipL32 in comparison with microscopic agglutination test (MAT) and additionally contribute to the knowledge of the distribution of the one of most important worldwide zoonotic infection, assessing the seropositivity of bovine leptospirosis in beef cattle herds of Brazilian Pantanal, an important ecological preserved area, where cattle constitute not only the most important economic resource but also the major...

Reproductive performance of Nellore heifers raised in extensive system undergoing different vaccination protocols in fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) Ciência Rural
Schillings Neto,Ernest; Nogueira,Eriklis; Jardim,Rodrigo; Abreu,Urbano Gomes Pinto de; Sterza,Fabiana Andrade de Melo; Pellegrin,Aiesca Oliveira; Juliano,Raquel Soares.
ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the reproductive performance of Nellore heifers without previous vaccination undergoing fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) and subsequent natural breeding under different vaccination protocols against infectious bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), and bovine leptospirosis (BL). A total of 763 animals were included; the group assignment was as follows: T1, control without vaccination; T2, vaccination against BL; T3, vaccination against BHV-1and BVDV; T4,vaccination against combination of BL + BHV-1and BVDV. Vaccination was started 30 days before FTAI (D-40), and a booster dose was administered at D-10. Serological tests were used to verify the occurrence rate of natural infection by BL,...

Serology for brucellosis in free-ranging crab-eating foxes (Cerdocyon thous) and brown-nosed coatis (Nasua nasua) from Brazilian Pantanal Ciência Rural
Dorneles,Elaine Maria Seles; Pellegrin,Aiesca Oliveira; Péres,Igor Alexandre Hany Fuzeta Schabib; Mathias,Luis Antônio; Mourão,Guilherme; Bianchi,Rita de Cassia; Olifiers,Natalie; Rocha,Fabiana Lopes; Lage,Andrey Pereira.
A serological survey in free-ranging crab-eating foxes (Canidae: Cerdocyon thous) and brown-nosed coatis (Procyonidae: Nasua nasua) was performed in the Nhecolândia sub-region of the Brazilian Pantanal to evaluate the presence of anti-smooth Brucella antibodies on those wild populations. The detection of anti-smooth Brucella antibodies was performed by the Rose Bengal Test (RBT) as screening test and the Fluorescence Polarization Assay (FPA) as a confirmatory test. The frequency of smooth Brucella seropositive animals were 13.2% (5/38, 95% CI: 4.4% - 28.1%) for crab-eating foxes and 8.8% (3/34, 95% CI: 1.9% -23.7%) for brown-nosed coatis. No association was found between seropositivity for brucellosis and gender or age. The results of this study suggest...
