Previous research on the mackerel's blood tissue dealt with, on the one hand, blood groups, and on the other hand, the immunology of serum proteins (BONNET, 1967). Their goal was to bring to light the possible existence of distinct races within the species Scomber scombrus. The study by electrophoresis of serum and crystalline lens proteins was undertaken with this same goal in mind. Its aim was, first of all, to determine biochemical characteristics that have a definite taxonomic value, which led us to compare the protein diagrams of Scomber scombrus and Scomber colias. The results obtained are the subject of this report, in which there are also data on the equipment and techniques used. Later research will consist in seeing whether some of these... |

The great size of the continental shelf, the low landscape of the coasts, the lack of a sailing channel, are factors which make the precise localization of a ship on the bank of Arguin difficult, if not impossible. As a result, the data on the topography, though important, is still incomplete or imprecise. It is almost non-existent for the wide and shallow central shelf located inside the reef area where dangerous sailing adds up to these measuring difficulties. Filling these gaps is needed if we want to continue the exploration of this region and the assessment of the stocks. Concerning the nature of the seabed, a spreading of the sand towards the open-sea is observed, which is the direct consequence of the nearness of the desert, the action of the winds... |

The authors study two populations of Serranus cabrilla, one with a yellow color, the other with a deeper color (orange and brown). They try to see if it is eventually possible to join this duality of coloring to a biochemical difference by the electrophoresis of the eye lens proteins. This technique can give useful indications in a taxonomic study. The results of this work could indicate that the species Serranus cabrilla presents two populations which are separating and tending to a specific individualization. This speciation, perhaps, will tend to the individualization of two species that will be named : Serranus cabrilla for the "red combers" and "Serranus flavus for the "yellow combers". |

Confusion has arisen over the nomenclature of certain fish of the family Centracanthidia, because of the colour variations due to sexual dichromatism, sexual inversions, protogynous hermaphroditism, and seasonal modifications according to the stage of maturity. A historical survey of nomenclature is presented for species described under the genera Maena, Smaris and Spicara, the last being the most recent. A morphological study and an electrophoretic study of the crystalline lens of the various species involved is described. The techniques and standards used are given. As a result of the study, and bearing in mind the effects of the variations mentioned above, it was concluded from electrophoretic comparisons that only 2 species are valid, Spicara maena and... |

A survery of Solea vulgaris biochemical polymorphisms is presented with details of the techniques employed. The electrophoretic patterns of GPI, SOD, PGM, GPD, MDH, AAT, ES, GLO, XDH, MOD, IDH and major protein components of the skeletal muscle are described as corresponding to the products of 27 genes, 13 of which were found to be highly polymorphic. The bases and limits of the "locus per locus" interpretation of biochemical polymorphisms for which the mode of inheritance is not available yet are discussed. |

Thau is a mediterranean lagoon with a large productive stock of molluscs (oysters, mussels) cultivated on suspended tines and colonised by epibionta (ascidia and others invertebrates, algae, etc ... ). This study was developed as part of the PNOC-OXYTHAU.programme. Its aim was to analyze the effects of oyster farrning on water-mass surrounding structures loaded with suspended molluscs and proximal watermass separating these structures. This study concems particulate suspended matter and deposits of particulate organic matter on the bottom after sedimnentation. Biochemical measurements were carried out for nitrogen, carbon, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. ln order to estimate sedimentaton, bottom sediment traps were used |
