Efficiency of water use in sunflower grown in hydroponic system under saline stress REA
Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Gheyi,Hans R.; G. Filho,Doroteu H.; Soares,Frederico A. L.; Dias,Nildo da S..
In order to identify alternatives for the use of saline water in agricultural production, the effects of the use of brackish water in the preparation of the nutrient solution for the cultivation of sunflower (cv. EMBRAPA 122-V2000) were studied in hydroponic system on consumption and efficiency of water use for the production of achenes and biomass. A completely randomized design was used, analyzed in a 5x2 factorial scheme with three replications. The factors studied were five levels of salinity of nutrient solution (1.7 - control; 4.3; 6.0; 9.0; and 11.5dS m-1) and two plant densities - one or two plants per vessel. It was concluded that the water consumption of sunflower is a variable sensitive to the salinity of the nutrient solution, especially after...

Zamora,Valentin Ruben O; Silva,Manasses M da; Silva,Geronimo F da; Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Menezes,Dimas; Menezes,Sirleide Maria de.
ABSTRACT This study was installed to evaluate the effect of pulse drip irrigation under different water depth levels (fertigation) in the main water relations of coriander crop (Coriandrum sativum). The experiment was installed under protected environment conditions, at UFRPE, Recife, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a 2x5 factorial scheme, with three replications. Treatments consisted of two application types (continuous and pulsed irrigation), and five water depths with replacement of 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120% of crop evapotranspiration (ETc). Water demand was estimated through water balance using a drainage lysimetry. Six irrigation pulses were defined with a 60-minute-rest interval between two successive applications. Plants...

Azevedo,Wagner Santos Lima; Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Araújo,Alexandre Eduardo de; Perez-Marin,Aldrin Martin; Medeiros,Salomão de Sousa.
ABSTRACTThe reduction on crop production observed in semiarid conditions is closely linked to soils degradation in their physical, microbiological and fertility aspects. Based on this premise, the effects of different types of organic fertilizers associated to the use of mulching in the production of cowpea grown in Paraíba state, Brazil, under semiarid conditions, was studied. The research was conducted under field conditions in the municipality of Casserengue, PB, from April to July 2010. The statistical design in randomized block design with five treatments and five replicates was used, totaling 25 experimental units. Treatments consisted on application of cattle manure or biofertilizer on presence or absence of mulch, plus a control treatment, without...

Substrates and time intervals of renewal of wastewater in production and post-harvest of the ornamental sunflower Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Gheyi,Hans Raj; Pérez-Marin,Aldrin Martin; Dias,Nildo da Silva; Guedes Filho,Doroteu Honório.
Flower production in semi-hydroponic systems is a profitable alternative for generating income in communities of small farmers in the semiarid region of Brazil. This is because such a system of cultivation relates aspects of the climate, water and soil of the region, favoring the production of crops. In this work, the use of wastewater as a source of water and nutrients was studied, renewed at four time intervals (daily and every two, three and four days), and of three growth substrates (coconut fiber, sand and sugarcane bagasse), in the production and post-harvest period of sunflowers. These treatments were distributed in a completely randomised design and analysed in a 4 x 3 factorial with three replications, giving a total of 36 experimental units. It...

Water and physiological relationships of lettuce cultivated in hydroponics with brackish waters Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Soares,Hammady Ramalho e; Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Silva,Ênio Farias de França e; Rolim,Mário Monteiro; Silva,Gerônimo Ferreira da.
ABSTRACT Rationalization of brackish water management in hydroponic crops is one of the ways to expand and manage water supply in shortage areas. Thus, this work was carried out to evaluate the water and physiological relationships of Iceberg lettuce (cv. Tainá) in plants exposed to strategies of replacement of the evapotranspired volume of saline nutrient solutions. Two experiments were conducted in NFT hydroponic system, in which increasing levels of water salinity (0.2, 1.2, 2.2, 3.2, 4.2 and 5.2 dS m-1) were used to prepare the nutrient solutions. In the first experiment, the evapotranspired volume was replaced with the respective brackish water and, in the second one, with public-supply water (0.2 dS m-1). Both experiments were set up in a randomized...

Nutrient and inorganic solute (Na+ and Cl-) content in green onion plants under hydroponic cultivation using brackish water Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Souza,Carlos Donato da Silva; Silva,Geronimo Ferreira da; Menezes,Sirleide Maria de; Morais,José Edson Florentino de; Santos Júnior,José Amilton; Silva,Alexsandro Oliveira da.
ABSTRACT Cultivation using brackish waters can result in nutritional and metabolic imbalances in several plant species, consequently reducing the production of dry matter (DM) and accumulation of toxic ions (Na+ and/or Cl-) in plants. We evaluated the DM production, and nutrient and inorganic solute (Na+ and Cl-) content in green onion plants (cv. Todo Ano Evergreen - Nebuka) under different levels of nutrient solution salinity in combination with circulation frequencies of this solution. Two experiments were conducted in a hydroponic system, using a completely randomized design, in a 6 × 2 factorial scheme, with five replicates: six levels of nutrient solution salinity (1.5, 3.0, 4.5, 6.0, 7.5, and 9.0 dS m-1) and two solution circulation frequencies...
