Effect of different sources of selenium on performance and characteristics of immune system of broiler chickens R. Bras. Zootec.
Shabani,Roozbeh; Fakhraei,Jafar; Yarahmadi,Hossein Mansoori; Seidavi,Alireza.
ABSTRACT An experiment was conducted based on a completely randomized design with 500 Ross 308 broiler chickens to investigate the effect of three different sources of selenium on performance and characteristics of immune system. Chickens were arranged in 10 treatments and five repetitions (10 chickens for each repetition). Ten treatments of experimental diet were considered in the study, including a basal diet (control); 0.5, 0.8, and 1.2 mg nano-selenium + basal diet (three treatments); 0.5, 0.8, 1.2 mg selenomethionine + basal diet; and 65, 80, and 100 mg vitamin E + selenium + basal diet. Findings suggested that adding selenomethionine (1.2 mg) to the basal diet resulted in a significant effect on feed conversion ratio and weight of broilers. In fact,...

Phenotypic study of egg production curve in commercial broiler breeders using Compartmental function R. Bras. Zootec.
Safari-Aliqiarloo,Abbas; Zare,Masoomeh; Faghih-Mohammadi,Farhang; Seidavi,Alireza; Laudadio,Vito; Selvaggi,Maria; Tufarelli,Vincenzo.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of environmental factors on egg production curve traits in broiler breeders. The weekly egg production records of birds collected from four different flocks were used to estimate the egg production curve parameters using the Compartmental function (y = A(1 − exp−b(t − d))exp−ct). The coefficient of determination (R2) obtained by the model was 0.98. Least squares analysis of variance indicated that the environmental factors such as hatchability and flock had significant effects on egg production curve traits. The highest correlation was observed between the weekly potential maximum yield and yield at the beginning of laying, whereas the lowest correlation was found between the weekly potential...

Effect of litter treatment on growth performance, intestinal development, and selected cecum microbiota in broiler chickens R. Bras. Zootec.
Taherparvar,Gilaneh; Seidavi,Alireza; Asadpour,Leila; Payan-Carreira,Rita; Laudadio,Vito; Tufarelli,Vincenzo.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine whether the type of bedding materials (sand, wood shavings, and paper) and of two chemical amendments (lime and bentonite) could interfere with litter quality (moisture, pH, and total bacterial counts), thereby influencing also the growth performance and the development of intestinal traits and cecum microbiota of chickens. Two hundred and seventy male Ross 308 broiler chickens were randomly assigned into nine treatment groups with three replicates per treatment. Broiler productive parameters, relative weight of different intestinal segments, content of cecal total bacterial counts (total aerobic bacteria, Lactobacilli, and coliforms), as well as litter moisture, pH, and total aerobic bacteria and...

Comparison of Phenotypic and Genetic Performance of Local Silkworm Groups and Two Commercial Lines Biol. Res.
Mirhosseini,Seyed Ziaeddin; Nematollahian,Shahla; Ghanipoor,Mani; Seidavi,Alireza.
Five Iranian native silkworm groups: Baghdad, Khorasan Orange, Guilan Orange, Khorasan Pink, Khorasan Lemon, and 107 and 110 commercial lines (12 families from each breed) were randomly selected and reared during 2003-2005 (five generations in spring and autumn). In each family, 30 male and 30 female cocoons were individually recorded for weight, shell weight and shell ratio. From among the native groups, the highest average in all three traits belonged to Baghdad and Khorasan Pink, and the lowest to Khorasan Orange and Khorasan Lemon. From among the commercial lines, the highest average in all three traits belonged to 107. In comparing heritabihty for cocoon weight in native groups, the highest heritabihty belonged to Guilan Orange (0.5147) and Khorasan...

Detection of Clostridium sp. and its Relation to Different Ages and Gastrointestinal Segments as Measured by Molecular Analysis of 16S rRNA Genes BABT
Mirhosseini,Seyed Ziaeddin; Seidavi,Alireza; Shivazad,Mahmoud; Chamani,Mohammad; Sadeghi,Ali Asghar; Pourseify,Reza.
The objective of this study was to establish a specific, sensitive and rapid PCR approach for the detection of Clostridium sp. at the genus level. Clostridium sp. in the duodenum, jejunum, ileum and cecum of broiler chickens were analyzed by 16S rRNA genes. The PCR detected the presence of Clostridium spp. in naturally contaminated intestinal samples. For the total gastrointestinal segments, 53.125, 65.625 and 59.375% samples were positive for naturally occurring Clostridium spp. at the ages 4, 14 and 30d, respectively. Analysis of the microbial contents indicated that Clostridium sp. was not consistently detected in all intestinal segments. These results can put in evidence the hypothesis that Clostridium spp. may be interfering in health and performance...
