Wolfrum, Sebastian; Siebrecht, Norman; Kainz, Maximilian.

Organic farming depends on the promotion of biodiversity and the corresponding functions. Almost no tools are known for the purpose of farm-specific information explaining the influence of farm management on biodiversity. The paper describes a pressure indicator oriented approach that allows estimating such effects. It has been applied in 2 organic and 2 conventional farms where results were discussed. The investigations made so far allow concluding that multiple-structured low-input systems achieve better marks than specialized high-input systems. For further development and validation additional studies are required. It is planned to test the indicator model in numerous farms, in order to disclose bottlenecks and deficiencies.

Anecic, endogeic, epigeic or all three - acknowledging the compositional nature of earthworm ecological group data in biodiversity analysis Organic Eprints
Wolfrum, Sebastian; Siebrecht, Norman; Papaja-Hülsbergen, Susanne; Kainz, Maximilian; Hülsbergen, Kurt-Jürgen.
Agriculture and biodiversity are closely connected. Especially the soil ecosystem is crucial in this relation. Earthworms are seen as good indicators for the health and functioning of the soil. Beneath different biodiversity measurese earthworm ecological group data is analysed to assess soil biodiversity, fertility and capability to deliver ecosystem services. However this kind of data is compositional and needs a special statistical treatment. New available methods for this purpose were applied to data from the BIOBIO project (www.biobio-indicator.org) to gain better understanding of the complex relationship between earthworms, agricultural management and environment.

Arndorfer, Michaela; Kainz, Maximilian; Siebrecht, Norman; Wolfrum, Sebastian; Friedel, Jürgen K..

Information on biodiversity and related population parameters are of key importance for assessing ecosystem services or impacts of management decisions in agriculture. However information on this parameters is often not directly measurable. Indicators are a convenient way to gain information on these variables. Here we present Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-PM) to develop and evaluate complex indicators for biodiversity and related parameters. As an example we use data on Lumbricus terrestris from 76 plots on Bavarian mixed farms to create complex indicators for population viability, management intensity and site potential and model their causal relations.

Untersuchungen zum Einfluss ausgebrachter Hummelvölker auf Samenerträge von Rotklee Organic Eprints
Wolfrum, Sebastian; Ostermaier, Miriam; Siebrecht, Norman; Hülsbergen, Kurt-Jürgen.
It is known that a lot of agricultural crops are dependent on pollination by insects. While managing of pollinators for some crops is common, the effect of artificially breed bumblebees on yields of Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is less studied. Here we present results of a field experiments where boxes with bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) where used to raise the pollination and thus the seed yields. By comparing test plots in different fields the effects were investigated. In the experiment no significant differences were found between the plots with or without artificially breed bumblebees. Possible reasons are discussed.

Wirkungen des Ökologischen Landbaus auf Bodenerosion Organic Eprints
Kainz, Max; Siebrecht, Norman; Reents, Dr. Hans Jürgen.
Soil erosion is often calculated by models. Those are up to now not reflecting the specific conditions of Organic Agriculture (OA). The aggregate-stabilizing effect of grass-clover ley, which is a crucial crop for OA, is considered much greater than implemented in the models. Other factors not included in models include, the effects of organic instead of mineral fertilizers, the non-use of pesticides and soil cover by specific crops and weeds. This paper gives a first overview about the modifying effects of organic farming on soil erosion.

One of the aims of organic farming is the protection of biodiversity. In the EU FP7 project BioBio, we studied the effect of organic farming on species numbers at farm level on 169 randomly selected organic and non-organic farms with mostly low to medium intensity in ten European regions. Using a preferential sampling scheme based on habitat mapping, numbers of plants, earthworms, spiders and bees were assessed at farm level. A global analysis across the ten regions shows that organic farms have significantly higher numbers of plant and bee species than non-organic farms. The effect of organic farming on earthworm and spider species numbers are also positive but insignificant. The effects in absolute terms are small and much smaller than the variation...

Wirkungen des Ökologischen Landbaus auf Bodenerosion – Beitrag 2: Einfluss des Leguminosenmangements auf Merkmale der Bodenerodibilität Organic Eprints
Müller, Christoph; Siebrecht, Norman; Reents, Dr. Hans Jürgen; Brandhuber, Robert; Kainz, Max.
It is supposed that organic farming reduces soil water erosion due to a long soil coverage and soil aggregation by roots and organic manure. In a long term field trial which is focused on the effect of legume management in different crop rotations soil aggregation in the top layer of 0-5 cm was tested and correlated with some other soil properties and indicators of carbon balances. There are differences in aggregate stability between the crop rotations. The incorporated plant material (roots, stubble residues, green manure) has the best effect on the stability of soil aggregates.

Wirkungen des Ökologischen Landbaus auf Bodenerosion – Beitrag 3: Eignung bestehender Methoden, Defizite und Anpassungsbedarf Organic Eprints
Siebrecht, Norman; Kainz, Max.
For the assessment of soil erosion many models have been developed. Most of these don’t consider specific effects of organic agriculture (OA). That might result in wrong calculations of soil losses. This paper describes how the widespread model ABAG could be adopted to OA. But some effects can not be included easily. This seems to be possible when using the model RUSLE2, which is compatible to ABAG. But at least the carry-over effect of leys and the influence of pesticides need further research.
