ABSTRACT Bernardia and Tragia are the largest genera of the tribes Bernardieae and Plukenetieae (Euphorbiaceae,), with 68 and 125 species, respectively. Very few palynological studies have focused specifically on these genera in spite of the great pollen diversity observed in the family. The present study analyzed the pollen morphology of the Brazilian species of Bernardia and Tragia to identify diagnostic characteristics that could aid in their taxonomic circumscription. The pollen grains of 11 species of Bernardia and five of Tragia were obtained from specimens deposited in the HRB, HUEFS, PEUFR, RB and UFP herbaria, and were analyzed using light and scanning electron microscopy. Este estudo foi baseado na análise de materiais de herbário, referências bibliográficas e coletas, revelando a ocorrência de 35 espécies do gênero Croton para o estado de Pernambuco. A maior parte destas espécies tem distribuição exclusiva na zona fitogeográfica das Caatingas; Croton fuscescens Spreng., C. grewioides Baill. e C. blanchetianus Baill. estendem-se da zona da Mata até a zona das Caatingas; C. polyandrus Spreng. e C. sellowii Baill. ocorrem principalmente na faixa litorânea, em vegetação de restinga; C. argenteus L., C. jacobinensis Baill. e C. triqueter Lam. foram observados apenas na zona da Mata, e C. glandulosus L., C. heliotropiifolius Kunth, C. hirtus L' Her. e C. lundianus (Didr.) Abstract: We investigated insect galls in Rupestrian field and Cerrado vegetation in the municipality of Caetité (BA), Brazil, between August/2015 and June/2016. This is the first study of gall diversity in Rupestrian field vegetation in that state. We encountered 48 different morphotypes of galls, distributed among 17 different plant species belonging to 13 genera and 21 host plant families. The greatest gall richness was observed in Cerrado (n=39) as compared to Rupestrian field (n=9) vegetation. The principal botanical families observed with galls were Leguminosae, Malpighiaceae, and Myrtaceae, with 10, 8 and 4 morphotypes, respectively. Abstract: Bernardia and Tragia are genera of the subfamily Acalyphoideae, with species occurring in tropical and subtropical regions. Studies concerning those genera are scarce in Brazil, including Northeastern Brazil. The present study was designed to study the taxonomy of species occurring there, and provides illustrations, keys, descriptions, and comments concerning taxonomic affinities, as well as information concerning their geographic distributions and environmental preferences. A total of 13 species were encountered, eight of Bernardia and five of Tragia.
