Última Ocupação de conchas de gastrópodes por ermitões (Decapoda, Anomura) no litoral de Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil Iheringia, Sér. Zool. O presente estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar a ocupação de conchas por ermitões no litoral da cidade de Rio Grande, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Os animais foram amostrados em 14 radiais em Rio Grande, entre 12 e 50 metros de profundidade. Cada ermitão e sua respectiva concha foram identificados, pesados e medidos. Um total de 408 animais foi capturado, pertencentes às famílias Diogenidae e Paguridae; as duas espécies mais abundantes foram Dardanus insignis (de Saussure, 1858) e Loxopagurus loxochelis (Moreira, 1901). Os ermitões ocuparam conchas de 13 espécies de gastrópodes, principalmente de Buccinanops lamarckii (Kiener, 1834) e B. gradatum (Deshayes, 1844). O objetivo do presente trabalho foi caracterizar o ritmo de atividade e tempo de digestão em Aegla longirostri Bond-Buckup &amp; Buckup, 1994. Os animais foram coletados em Santa Maria, RS, Brasil. Em laboratório, os animais foram transferidos para aquários individuais (5L). Para testar a atividade locomotora e alimentar dos aeglídeos um grupo de animais permaneceu sob luminosidade constante durante 12 horas, enquanto outro grupo permanecia no escuro, essa condição sendo invertida a cada 12 horas. As observações foram realizadas a cada 6 horas. Para determinar o tempo de digestão os animais foram alimentados e a cada 30 minutos um indivíduo era sacrificado. A new species of Benthana Budde-Lund, 1908 is described from southern Brazil. Benthana cairensis sp. nov. is distinguished from the other species in the genus by having 17 aesthetascs on the antennula and the elongated male pleopod 1 exopod with a lobe on the inner lateral margin and up to six setae on the outer lateral margin. The new species most resembles B. olfersii (Brandt, 1833), but may be distinguished by lacking the lobe with six setae on the internal margin of the proximal extremity of the merus of pereiopod 7. Furthermore, we include B. olfersii in the subgenus Benthanoscia based on the examined material as described herein. One way to estimate gonadal development through the reproductive cycle is to observe the growth of the gonads related to the organs used to store energy. The aim of this study was to follow the gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indexes during annual cycle of Aegla platensis Schmitt, 1942. Adult animals were collected in Taquara, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (29°46'S, 50°53'W). Males and females were initially weighed and dissected and had their gonads and hepatopancreas (HP) removed and weighed in order to estimate the Gonadosomatic (GI) and hepatosomatic (HI) indexes. The benthic fauna plays an important role in the trophic web and the nutrient flow of limnetic environments. This work aimed to study the diversity and abundance of the benthic invertebrates in four watercourses in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Sampling was done seasonally at each site, with a long-handled net at the margins (banks) and streambed, from November 2001 through September 2002. Margalef richness, Shannon diversity and Pielou evenness indices were applied to the data analysis.
