Bionomics of Neolasioptera aculeatae (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), a promising biological control candidate against Parkinsonia aculeata (Fabaceae) Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Mc Kay,Fernando; Sosa,Alejandro J.; Heard,Tim A..
Field surveys conducted in North-central Argentina on Parkinsonia aculeata L. between 2008 and 2011 revealed the presence of the stem-galling midge Neolasioptera aculeatae Gagné (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). Bionomical and field host range studies were conducted to determine the insect's suitability for biological control of P . aculeata. Presence of N. aculeatae galls was restricted to the northern distribution of P. aculeata. Larvae and/or pupae were found by dissecting galls collected throughout the year on P. aculeata plants at different phenological stages. Emergence of N. aculeatae adults occurred 13 to 34 days from field collection and over an average period of 22 days. Field host range surveys indicated that of the 11 legume species sampled, N....

Egg parasitoids of Megamelus spp. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) in Argentina tentativa Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Triapitsyn,Serguei V.; Sosa,Alejandro J.; Hernández,M. Cristina.
Egg parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae, Mymaridae, and Platygastridae) of Megamelus spp. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) in Argentina are reviewed and keyed. Four new species are described: Anagrus (Anagrus) empanadus Triapitsyn, sp. nov. (Mymaridae, parasitoid of M. scutellaris Berg feeding on water hyacinth, Eichhornia crassipes (Martius) Solms-Laubach, Aprostocetus (Ootetrastichus) riverplaticus Triapitsyn, sp. nov. (Eulophidae: Tetrastichinae, parasitoid of M. bellicus Marino de Remes Lenicov & Sosa), A. (Ootetrastichus) yerbamatei Triapitsyn, sp. nov. (parasitoid of M. bellicus, M. scutellaris and Megamelus sp.), all from Buenos Aires Province (A. (Ootetrastichus) yerbamatei also occurs in Formosa Province), and Parascelio sabcli Triapitsyn, sp....

A new Neotropical species of Megamelus and the reassignment of Stenocranus maculipes (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Mariani,Roxana; Sosa,Alejandro J.; de Remes Lenicov,Ana M. M..
We report on two species of Delphacidae from Argentine wetlands, Megamelus nigrifasciatus Mariani & Remes Lenicov sp. nov. and Megamelus maculipes (Berg) comb. nov. The first species was collected from Eryngium sp. (Apiales: Apiaceae) and was described from the brachypters of both sexes. The second one, Stenocranus maculipes (Berg, 1879) collected from Echinodorus grandiflorum (Alismataceae), is proposed as Megamelus maculipes comb.nov. The female macropter holotype is redescribed and the male and female brachypters are described for the first time. Geographic distribution and biological data of both species are reported. The genus Eryngium is cited for the first time as host plant for the genus Megamelus. Additionally, a key is provided to...
