We characterized the local benthic Chironomidae by analyzing the numerical density, biomass, diversity index of Shannon-Wiener and dominance of larvae in the main channel of the Ivinhema River, in a secondary channel, in five lakes connected to the main channel and in five lakes without connection. Of the 68 taxa identified, Aedokritus sp., Tanytarsus sp., Chironomus strenzkei Fittkau, 1968 and Procladius sp.1 were found in all sampling sites and were considered morphospecies with greater of greatest ecological plasticity. Chironomus strenzkei Fittkau, 1968, contributed with the greatest biomass in the central region of lakes without connection, whereas Aedokritus sp. dominated in the littoral of lakes. The greater values of diversity indices in the... |

The Ilha Grande National Park, Paraná, Brazil, is located in the Upper Paraná River and has characteristics typical of a floodplains. This protected area includes lagoons connected and disconnected to the Paraná River, although the latter also connect during periods of high water level, thus composing a heterogeneous group of lacustrine environments. The enormous potential the flora and fauna diversities are still little known to the region, as can be seen through benthic invertebrates, inclunding bivalves mollusks. The granulometric composition of these floodplain lagoons was formed mainly by mud and very fine sand. Furthermore, organic matter composition was predominantly of fine particulate. The other abiotic factors differed from lagoons located within... |

Temporal distributions of Paspalum repens at the mouth of the Caracu Stream on the left margin of the Paraná River were characterized and analyzed. Samples of Paspalum repens were taken monthly from March 1991 to February 1992. Fauna consisted of many taxa: Gastropoda, Oligochaeta, Copepoda, Ephemeroptera, Hemiptera, Trichoptera, Lepidoptera, Chironomidae, Coleoptera and Hydracarina. With the exception of May 1991, low density of organisms was registered during the sampling period. During May 1991, a sharp decline in the Paraná River water level was noted. This fact suggested that organisms dispersed in the submersed vegetation during the flooding of the Paraná River must have concentrated in the stream margin and increased the density of organisms at this... |
