Pollination by bees in citrus (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Toledo, Vagner de Alencar Arnaut de; Halak, André Luiz; Chambó, Emerson Dechechi; Baitala, Tatiane Vicente; Costa-Maia, Fabiana Martins; Malerbo-Souza, Darclet Teresinha.
The citrus flower (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) is attractive and the plant is cross pollination, and the main pollinator are the bees. The insect pollination, mainly Apis mellifera L., in this crop is important because the plant produces fruit in great quantity and of the best quality. The performance of A. mellifera as pollinator agent depends on several factors, like this, the nectar and pollen availability in flowers, climatic conditions, and physical aspects of soil. This pollination by Africanized honeybees in C. sinensis can generate more sweet fruits, besides rising the production about 30%.

Queen bee Apis mellifera and the colony productivity Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Camargo, Simone Cristina; Lima, Erica Gomes de; Toledo, Vagner de Alencar Arnaut de; Garcia, Regina Conceição.
Genetic improvement in beekeeping is mainly focused on increasing the productivity of various bee products, however, when thinking in terms of breeding, it is necessary to produce queen bees and to applicate selection in bee colonies. Even with the development of methods and technologies, there are few practical applications in the apiary. Thus, the aim of this study is to synthesize and disseminate the knowledge about the biology and behavior of queen bees, with further focus on the production of queens, as well as the instrumental insemination and selection, as tools for breeding programs. With the release of this knowledge it is expected that their application would improve the quality and quantity of bee products, keeping the colony with a selected...
