ABSTRACT: The increasing of global demand for food has required more efficiency in the production process. Transportation represents a source of body dehydration for pigs transported from farm to slaughterhouses. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the distances on the body dehydration of pigs transported to slaughter in tropical conditions. We analyzed 350 pigs shipments with a total of 68,588 heads using statistical software SAS by anova, means and corr procedures. The results showed a liveweight loss estimated at 12% which was increased gradually as the distance increased as pigs were deprived of water for a long time. Brazil is the world's largest producer of oranges and uses more than 70% of the harvested fruits in the production of juices. The amount of processed orange is growing about 10% per year, confirming the trend of the Brazilian citrus for juice production. This research aimed to investigate the Brazilian orange juice production chain from 2005 to 2009. Data from the amount of frozen juice produced and exported, international price of orange juice, and intermediate transactions were assessed in order to make possible selection of all interveners involved in the chain. The study using the Social Network Analysis (SNA) showed that the densest relationships in the network are from exporters to importers and from orange growers to the orange processing industry.... Resumo: Os produtores de milho precisam decidir sobre qual a melhor alternativa para comercialização do produto: vender antes da colheita, no momento da colheita, no mercado futuro ou armazenar para vender na entressafra. Entretanto, essa nem sempre é uma tarefa fácil já que depende de diversas variáveis que afetam diretamente essa decisão. Neste estudo, foram analisados dados da produção de milho internacional e brasileira e buscou-se identificar qual a melhor estratégia de comercialização de milho para os produtores de Mato Grosso do Sul (MS) considerando quatro variáveis de decisão em conjunto: logística, preço, produtividade e disponibilidade de produto.
