“Buer Ner Moo” a rain phase aromatic Highland rice variety, was planted on rice terrace that a hilltribe who called themselves Pwakin-nyaw (Kariang) was the owner. The rice name was Pwakin-nyaw’s language that means “Aromatic rice” same as its physical characteristic. Buer Ner Moo was a land race rice variety, which have been bred by Pwakinnyaw farmer selection. It was kept from generation to next generation until now. Therefore, it still closely related to Pwakin-nyaw’s community. If it was developed to pure variety and to Geographical Indications (GI), that was the way to increase its value. Rice disease surveys had been carried out in the field of highland terrace paddy cultivation at ban na-gean, tambon na-gean, amphoe om-goy, Chiang Mai province which is in the area of highland agricultural development station project. Disease surveys have shown rice seed discoloration was the most severity and important problem in this area. The objective of this study was to test the effectiveness of antagonistic bacteria and some plant extract from tea seed to control rice seed discoloration in highland area. The experiment was designed as RCB with 6 treatments and 4 replications, using Beu Pa Doo rice variety and transplanting method in wet season 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Mae Hong Son Rice Research Center was done the activities at two extension areas site of the Royal Project. The knowledge transfer and community potential development project at Ban Huay Sai, Huay Poo Ling, Muang, Mae Hong Son province and the project to solve opium growing area at Ban Huay Ha, Muang Paeng, Pai, Mae Hong Son province. At Ban Huay Sai upland rice is staple food crops but 8 households or 30 percent are insufficient for consumption about 2-3 months during the year. Community forum and terrace paddy technology transfer were done. The terrace paddy demonstration field was established with 4 farmers work together.
