Main purpose of this research was to increase the ability of PathumThani 1 rice to resist brown planthopper. The major tool used to accomplish this was marker assisted selection technology targeting on the gene Bph 3. The target gene harbored in the donor; UBN03078-101-342-4-19 (KDML105 x RathuHeenatiintrogression lines), should be transferred into the new generations of rice breeding program performed in this research. We aimed to develop the PathumThani 1 which still maintains its eating and cooking properties but hopefully increases BPH resistance. F1 generations of the crossing between PathumThani 1 and the donor were selected by targeting theRM 586, RM8072 andRM8074molecular markerof the Bph3 then back-crossed to generate BC1F1-BC4F2.
