Although traditional rice germplasm in northeastern Thailand is only a small portion comparing to modern popular varieties, they are still grown throughout the region. Those traditional varieties grown in the lower part of the region are mostly non-glutinous varieties, while those grown in the upper part are glutinous ones. The existence of these traditional varieties in the region is not only because of growing for sale, but also due to some special reason, such as, believes in their medicinal and nutritional properties, culture and ancestor’s believes.
