Aluminum tolerance on genotypes of signal grass R. Bras. Zootec.
Bitencourt,Gislayne de Araujo; Chiari,Lucimara; Laura,Valdemir Antônio; Valle,Cacilda Borges do; Jank,Liana; Moro,José Roberto.
The objective of this work was to evaluate aluminum tolerance of five genotypes of Urochloa decumbens (D24, CD24-2, CD24-27, CD24-45 e D62) and five genotypes of Urochloa ruziziensis (R30, R44, R46, R50 and R125) in hydroponic system. Uniform tillers were collected from these genotypes and transferred to two solutions: solution 1 (200 μM CaCl2, pH 4.2) and solution 2 (200 μM CaCl2 + 200 μM AlCl3, pH 4.2). Twenty-one days later, the roots of the plants were separated, stained and digitalized for analysis of the length and diameter of the main root. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, in factorial (genotypes × doses) with three replications. A significant interaction occurred between genotype and dose for length and width of the...

Genome-Wide Selection for tropical maize root traits under conditions of nitrogen and phosphorus stress - doi: 10.4025/actasciagron.v34i4.15884 Agronomy
Fritsche-Neto, Roberto; Universidade Federal de Viçosa; DoVale, Júlio César; Universidade Federal de Viçosa; Lanes, Éder Cristian Malta de; Universidade Federal de Viçosa; Resende, Marcos Deon Vilela de; Embrapa Florestas; Miranda, Glauco Vieira; Universidade Federal de Viçosa.
The objective of this study was to verify the accuracy of the Genome-Wide Selection (GWS) method in tropical maize breeding for root traits under conditions of nitrogen and phosphorus stress. Forty-one single-crosses were evaluated in two experiments. The first experiment considered low nitrogen availability, and the second experiment considered low phosphorus availability. A randomized block design with two replicates was used. The lateral and axial root lengths were measured using WinRhizo software. The analysis of deviance was calculated using the Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (REML/BLUP) method. Eighty microsatellite markers were used to genotype the estimation population. The Random Regression method was used to analyze...

Root distribution and its association with bean growth habit Anais da ABC (AABC)
VELHO,LUIS P.S.; MELO,RITA C. DE; BERNARDY,JOÃO PEDRO F.; GRIGOLO,SIBILA; GUIDOLIN,ALTAMIR F.; COIMBRA,JEFFERSON L.M..
ABSTRACT Associations between root distribution and bean growth habit may contribute to the selection of genotypes adapted to restrictive environments. The present work aimed to relate and compare root distribution with the growth habit in beans. 10 bean genotypes of different growth habits (I, II and III) were evaluated for root distribution in two agricultural years (2014/15 and 2015/16). The genotypes responded similarly for the trait root distribution throughout the agricultural years, without any simple effect of the genotype x year interaction. The factors genotype and years were significant for the trait. The genotypes of a determinate habit showed significant differences compared to other genotypes (II and III), which were ascribed to their poor...

Physiology of citrus fruiting Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Iglesias,Domingo J.; Cercós,Manuel; Colmenero-Flores,José M.; Naranjo,Miguel A.; Ríos,Gabino; Carrera,Esther; Ruiz-Rivero,Omar; Lliso,Ignacio; Morillon,Raphael; Tadeo,Francisco R.; Talon,Manuel.
Citrus is the main fruit tree crop in the world and therefore has a tremendous economical, social and cultural impact in our society. In recent years, our knowledge on plant reproductive biology has increased considerably mostly because of the work developed in model plants. However, the information generated in these species cannot always be applied to citrus, predominantly because citrus is a perennial tree crop that exhibits a very peculiar and unusual reproductive biology. Regulation of fruit growth and development in citrus is an intricate phenomenon depending upon many internal and external factors that may operate both sequentially and simultaneously. The elements and mechanisms whereby endogenous and environmental stimuli affect fruit growth are...

Tolerance of crambe (Crambe abyssinica Hochst) to salinity and water stress during seed germination and initial seedling growth Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Martha Freire da; Araújo,Eduardo Fontes; Silva,Laércio Junio da; Amaro,Hugo Tiago Ribeiro; Dias,Luiz Antônio dos Santos; Dias,Denise Cunha Fernandes dos Santos.
ABSTRACT Crambe is an oilseed plant whose oil is suitable for various industrial purposes, such as production of biodiesel, plastics, rubbers, and cosmetics. There are reports of the rusticity of this species and its potential for growth in arid and semi-arid environments, where water scarcity and soil salinity are common. However, studies regarding the tolerance of its seeds to these stresses and the physiological responses triggered during germination and seedling establishment under these conditions are incipient. The objective of this study was to evaluate the tolerance of crambe seeds to water deficit and salt stress during germination and early seedling development, as well as to investigate the role of antioxidant enzymes on tolerance to these...
