ABSTRACT One of the main problems in pepper seed production is the uneven maturation of the fruits due to the continuous flowering period of the plant, making it difficult to harvest all the fruits at the same time. Thus, studies on fruit maturation stage and seed physiological potential are extremely important in order to identify the appropriate harvest time, avoiding seed deterioration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological potential of five genotypes of “dedo de moça” pepper seeds (Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum) in three maturation stages (green, orange and red), with and without 10-day rest period after harvest date. Physiological potential and vigor of seeds were evaluated through germination tests (first count, accelerated aging... |

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the adaptability and multi-trait stability of wheat (Triticum aestivum) genotypes according to the phenotypic index of seed vigor (PIV). Thirty wheat genotypes were grown in seven environments in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, during one crop season. In each environment, a randomized complete block design with three replicates was used. The PIV was elaborated from the following traits: first germination count, germination percentage, accelerated aging, and electrical conductivity. The evaluated phenotypic index makes it possible to define macroenvironments for the production of wheat seeds with high physiological potential and to understand the implications of the genotype x environment... |

The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological performance of seeds and seedlings of tomato under the influence of different temperatures. The experiment was conducted in the Didactic Laboratory of Seed Analysis – ERS, UFPel. Gaúcho® tomato seeds were used. Treatments consisted of the constant temperatures 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 ºC. To determine the physiological performance of the seeds and seedlings were employed germination assessments, first count, germination speed index, accelerated aging, cold test, shoot and primary root length, dry matter of roots and shoots, seedling emergence at 14 and 21 days after sowing, and emergence speed index. The results showed that tomato seed germination is not affected by the temperatures 18 to 26 ºC.... |

The relationship of black layer and milk line development on maize seed maturity was evaluated under tropical conditions. Seed moisture (g.kg-1), standard germination - SG (7 days, 25°C), and vigor, using accelerated aging-AA (96 hours, 42°C and 100% of RH), cold test-CT only in 1991/92 (7 days at 10°C and 7 days at 25°C) and electrical conductivity-EC (four 50-seed samples, 24 hours imbibition at 25°C) and milk line and black layer formation (using a five-stage rating system) were determined at 3 to 4 days intervals, using two genotypes (hybrid CX 133 and variety IAC 100) during the crop seasons of 1990/91 and 1991/92. The results showed that physiological maturity was reached before stage 4, based on seed germination and vigor (AA and CT) values, which... |

Rice aging is an important characteristic for cooked rice. Aged rice is needed by consumer especially Thai people and other people in the world. It takes at least 4 months to age rice. Accelerated aging of rice can be done by heating. This research used a continuous microwave of 1,000 watts to accelerate aging of milled rice cv. Patumthani 1. The initial moisture content of milled rice was 13%. The milled rice was treated with microwave by using speed number 4,5, 6,7, 8 (speed 0.0164, 0.0233, 0.0269, 0.0287, 0.0318 m/s) with the time of heating 34.85, 24.43, 21.17, 19.22, 17.91 seconds per round. The test was done for 1, 2 and 3 rounds and the other is not treated with microwave (control). The rice is stored at room temperature (28±2 ºC). The milled rice... |

Present study was conducted to evaluate RD14 seed accelerated aging for longevity in humid tropic at Phrae Rice Research Center. Rice seeds from wet season, 2012 were stored in plastic bags at room temperature and were monitored for seed quality every month. Moreover, the rice seed samples were aliquoted for Accelerated Againg Test (AA) with 100% relative humidity and the temperature condition was varied from 44 46 and 48 0c for 72 96 120 and 144 hrs, respectively. The results revealed the correlation between seed germination from each temperature and time accelerated aging and seed stored in plastic bags at room temperature. It was shown that RD14 seed at moisture content 13% in plastic bag could be stored for 6 months with more than 80 % germination.... |

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of high dilutions of Pulsatilla nigricans in dinamisations 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 CH on the vigour of soybean seeds subjected to accelerated aging. The experiment was conducted according to a randomised design with 6 treatments and 10 replicates. The treatments consisted of dinamisations 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 CH and a distilled-water control. After the treatments, the seeds were subjected to accelerated aging (48h at 42ºC) in a growth chamber (25 ± 2ºC). The study evaluated the germination, the length of primary roots and shoots, the fresh weight of roots and shoots and the enzymatic activity of peroxidase (POX-EC1.11.1.7). The variables were analysed by ANOVA, and the means were compared using the Scott-Knott... |
