Intra-abdominal adhesions in horses MV&Z
Palma, Maurício Luiz Mesquita de; Foz Filho, Roberto Pimenta de Pádua.
Objective: To present a literature review on the physiopathology of intra-abdominal adhesions, contributing to the understanding of its occurrence. Data Sources: The information was obtained from CAB, MEDLINE and PUBMED databases, covering a retrospective period of 20 years. Data Synthesis: but a abdominal adhesions are the major cause of recurrent colic and relaparotomy in horses. Its occurrence is underestimated, once documentation is based on some post-mortem examinations and on relaparotomy only. Conclusions: The preventive methods consist of good surgical technique and utilization of resources that are suitable for application in horses and financially worthy.

Dexamethasone and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose prevent postoperative intraperitoneal adhesions in rats BJMBR
Du,X.H.; Liu,J.Q.; Xin,K.; Liu,G.H..
We aimed to evaluate the effects of the barrier agent sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (SCMC) with and without dexamethasone for the prevention of postoperative adhesion formation in a rat model of postoperative peritoneal adhesion. A total of 160 three-month old male and female Wistar rats underwent a laparotomy, and adhesions were induced by ileocecal abrasion. Rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups (n=40 each): group A, untreated; group B, treated with SCMC only; group C1, treated with SCMC + 3 mg dexamethasone, and group C2, treated with SCMC + 8 mg dexamethasone. After 12 days, adhesion formation and histopathological changes were compared. In groups A, B, C1, and C2, the mortality rates were 10, 5, 5, and 5%, respectively. In groups C1 and C2, the...

Intraoperative topical administration of mitomycin C, in different concentrations, on the cicatrization of mioplasties of the dorsal rectus of rabbits Ciência Rural
Mamede,Fabrício Villela; Martins,Bianca da Costa; Souza,Ana Letícia Groszewicz; Brunelli,Adriana Torrecilhas Jorge; Pontin,Karina; Soares,Edson Garcia; Albuquerque,Sérgio de; Laus,José Luiz.
Myoplasties of the extraocular muscle may cause adhesions between the operated muscle and the adjacent tissues, commonly generating cicatricial strabismus. With the purpose of reducing to a minimum the occurrence of adhesion, the effects of mitomycin C, an antifibrotic agent, were studied in concentrations of 0.008%, 0.02%, and 0.04% applied during intraoperative of myoplasties of the superior rectus muscle of rabbits. Fifty six animals were divided in five groups. During the postoperative, the operated areas were washed with physiological solution. Eye drop instillation to prevent inflammation and bacterial infection were used. The method to analyze the results consisted of clinical and histological evaluation and statistical analyzes. We also evaluated...

Methylene blue 1% solution on the prevention of intraperitoneal adhesion formation in a dog model Ciência Rural
Silva,Marco Augusto Machado; Silva,Olízio Claudino da; Silva,Luiz Antônio Franco da; Ribeiro,Raquel Cunha; Jorge,Paula Marina Brito; Helou,Jalily Bady; Teixeira,Pedro Paulo Maia; Brun,Maurício Veloso.
Intraperitoneal adhesions usually are formed after abdominal surgeries and may cause technical difficulties during surgical intervention, chronic abdominal pain and severe obstructions of the gastrointestinal tract. The current study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of methylene blue (MB) 1% solution on the prevention of intraperitoneal postsurgical adhesion formation in a canine surgical trauma model. Twenty bitches were submitted to falciform ligament resection, omentectomy, ovariohysterectomy and scarification of a colonic segment. Prior to abdominal closure, 10 bitches received 1mg kg-1 MB intraperitoneally (MB group) and 10 bitches received no treatment (control group, CT). On the 15th postoperative day the bitches were submitted to laparoscopy to...
