Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera assemblages in litter in a mountain stream of the Atlantic Rainforest from Southeastern Brazil Zoologia
Crisci-Bispo,Vera L.; Bispo,Pitágoras C.; Froehlich,Claudio G..
The study of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera associated with litter in southeastern Brazil streams aimed to answer the following questions: 1) Does richness and composition of EPT fauna differ between riffle and pool mesohabitats despite being associated to the same substratum, litter? 2) Does the similarity of the EPT fauna between both mesohabitats change with time? 3) Does the EPT functional feeding structure differ between both mesohabitats (riffles-pools)? In order to answer these questions, monthly collections, from November 1999 to June 2000, were done in Ribeirão (Stream) Bocaina with a D-net (10 litter patches in riffles and 10 in pools). The EPT fauna at Ribeirão Bocaina was more diversified and more abundant in the litter in riffles...

Aquatic oligochaeta (Annelida: Clitellata) in extractive reserve Lake Cuniã, Western Brazilian Amazon Biota Neotropica
Gomes,Diego Ferreira; Sanches,Nathalie Aparecida Oliveira; Sahm,Lucas Henrique; Gorni,Guilherme Rossi.
Abstract Oligochaeta is one of the most common and abundant taxon in continental aquatic fauna. However, knowledge of their distribution in Brazilian ecosystems is still incomplete and fragmented. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop an inventory of aquatic oligochaetes in the Extractive Reserve of Lake Cuniã in the State of Rondônia, Brazil. Collections of data were performed during the dry (August 2015) and rainy seasons (February 2016). The sediment samples were collected near the lakeside region using the kick sampling method and a kick-net sampler (mesh size of 0.25mm). This paper provides a catalog with 12 taxon from a total of 383 specimens, distributed into two families: Naididae (95.08%) and Opistocystidae (4.92%). The Pristininae subfamily...

Aquatic Oligochaete Communities in Amazonian Streams, Saracá-Taquera National Forest, Pará, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Bevilacqua,Maria Silvina; Marchese,Mercedes Rosa; Felix,Rodrigo Weber; Leal,João José Fonseca; Barros,Marcos Paulo Figueiredo de; Bozelli,Reinaldo Luiz; Esteves,Francisco de Assis.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze aquatic oligochaete distribution in relation to water column physicochemical variables, structural environmental variation, and predominant substrates in the preserved Amazonian streams of the Saracá-Taquera National Forest (FLONA Saracá-Taquera), northwest Pará, Brazil. Oligochaetes are widely used as bioindicators for monitoring aquatic environments as they are very sensitive to pollution and environmental changes. Physicochemical and structural variables were measured from 100 stream segments in order to understand the distribution of oligochaetes in Amazonian streams. Biotic samples were collected using Surber samplers in three of the most predominant substrate types in each segment. PERMANOVA testing...

Phytophilous Chironomidae (Diptera) and other macroinvertebrates in the ox-bow Infernão Lake (Jataí Ecological Station, Luiz Antônio, SP, Brazil) BJB
TRIVINHO-STRIXINO,S.; CORREIA,L. C. S.; SONODA,K..
Infernão Lake, located within the Jataí Ecological Station in Luiz Antônio Municipal district (São Paulo State, Brazil), is one of the most typical ox-bow lake of the Mogi-Guaçu River, and it presents, as the main feature, its great quantity of aquatic macrophytes, whose intensive development, in the last years practically covered the whole mirror of water. With the purpose to point out the composition and to establish the relative participation of the phytophilic zoocoenosis that inhabits the different macrophytes of that lake, a collection program of the main vegetation stands was established. The collections, were carried out randomly, during dry season (1994), in stands of Salvinia auriculata, Utricularia sp., Cabomba piauhyensis, Eichhornia azurea and...

Distribution of benthic communities in relation to the environmental integrity of subtropical streams Ecología austral
Pujarra,Samaila; Klosinski Lourenço,Danielle; de Almeida Gurski,Fernanda; dos Santos,Ana P. A; Moretto,Yara.
The benthic macroinvertebrate community structure is directly related to environmental factors such as water characteristics, habitat availability and substrate heterogeneity. This study had the purpose of characterizing the benthic macroinvertebrate community and compare its attributes in streams located inside (preserved area) and outside (altered area) the Iguaçu National Park, in the west of Parana, Brazil, in two season (dry and rainy). Three replicates per site were obtained through the Surber collector in four microhabitats (litter pool, litter riffle, substrate pool and substrate riffle). There was significant discrimination in the benthic fauna composition among the study areas (Wilks=0.091; F272,746= 2.249; P<0.0001). The taxa Corbiculidae,...

Spatial-temporal patterns of functional feeding groups in mountain streams of Córdoba, Argentina Ecología austral
Príncipe,Romina E; Gualdoni,Cristina M; Oberto,Ana M; Raffaini,Graciela B; Corigliano,María C.
Trophic structure of benthic communities is influenced by the availability of food resources which indeed may be conditioned by stream size, shading and substrate. This study aims to analyze the distribution of macroinvertebrate Functional Feeding Groups in different habitats of mountain streams (Córdoba, Argentina) and to assess the environmental variables conditioning this distribution at the habitat level. Four streams were sampled in two hydrological periods (high and low discharge) and three benthic samples were taken in riffles and runs of coarse and fine substrate. Gathering collectors were dominant in most of the habitats, streams and periods except in riffles during the low water period in which filtering collectors dominated. At the habitat...
