Atrazina é um dos herbicidas mais utilizados no mundo, apresentando relativa persistência em zonas saturadas e insaturadas. A principal via de dissipação de atrazina inclui a biodegradação. Solos coletados no município de Guaíra, SP, provenientes de áreas de mata, e solos sob cultivo intensivo, sob irrigação, com histórico de aplicação de atrazina, foram suplementados e incubados com o herbicida nas seguintes concentrações:70 microgramas g-1, 350 microgramas g-1 700 microgramas g-1. Influence des facteurs environmentaux sur l'aneuploïdie chez l'huître creuse, Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

Différents travaux menés depuis 1984 chez l'huître creuse en particulier, montrent qu'i existe, dans les branchies (Thiriot-Quiévreux C., 1982), une certaine proportion de cellules possédant un nombre de chromosomes inférieur au nombre habituel 2N=20. Ce phénomène est l'aneuploïdie. Cette anomalie cytogénétique est mise en évidence par un comptage de chromosomes d'une suspension cellulaire obtenue à partir de branchies. Marennes Oléron is the main french oyster farming area, receiving the fresh water from the Charente river and ail the drainage coming from the coastal cultivated marshlands. Impact of atrazine on somatic aneuploidy in cupped oysters, Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

In the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas hypodiploid aneuploid cells with 2n=19, 18 or 17 chromosomes have regularly been reported. There is a negative correlation between somatic aneuploidy and growth rate in oysters (Leitão et al., 2001a) as well as evidence for a genetic basis (Leitão et al., 2001b). Furthermore, non-random chromosome loss has been demonstrated in aneuploid karyotypes of C. gigas using the G-banding technique (Leitão et al., 2001c). Aneuploidy has previously been reported in wild and cultivated Pacific oysters, Crassostrea gigas, and it has been shown to be negatively correlated with growth. This is especially important since high variability of growth rate is one of the major problems in the aquacultural production of this species. The existence of an environmental factor (such as atrazine contamination) with an effect on aneuploidy level was first investigated through the study of a population of Crassostrea gigas subjected to different concentrations of atrazine. Endonuclease banding reveals that atrazine-induced aneuploidy resembles spontaneous chromosome loss in Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer

Divers travaux menés depuis 1984 montrent qu'il existe, chez l'huître creuse Crassostrea gigas, des cellules montrant un nombre anormal de chromosomes (2n = 19, 18 ou même 17 au lieu de 2n = 20). Le niveau d'aneuploïdie est déterminé par le décompte des chromosomes à partir de suspensions cellulaires de tissu branchial. Le pourcentage de cellules aneuploïdes est toujours significativement supérieur dans les "lots de queue", c'est-à-dire les huîtres présentant des croissances plus faibles, et peut atteindre plus de 30 %. Récemment, une étude réalisée au sein du programme européen « Genephys » a démontré que plus de 50 % de la variance pour la vitesse de croissance était liée au taux d'aneuploïdie. Le bassin de Marennes-Oléron, milieu fortement anthropisé, souffre d'une diminution générale du taux de croissance des huîtres creuses, Crassostrea gigas. Si les fortes densités existants dans le bassin sont grandement responsables de ce phénomène, d'autres facteurs environnementaux peuvent intervenir. Nous nous sommes intéressés à un caractère corrélé négativement à la croissance, le taux d'aneuploïdie. Corn culture has strongly developed in Aquitaine (France) over the past years, and lead to an increased use of pesticides and herbicides. One of the most commonly used formulations around the coast of the Arcachon Bay, an historical oyster spat capture zone, is the Atrazine-Simazine mix. The action limits of this product are defined on Crassostrea gigas larvae and on two nanoplankton test strains used in a controlled environment for their food, Isochrysis aff-galbana and Chaetoceros calcitrans. Herbicides can indeed directly impact on oyster larvae, but they can also have a negative impact by interfering with the development of the algae used as aquaculture feed and feed for veligeres.

The impact of environmental factors on aneuploidy level in the oyster Crassostrea gigas was studied with experiments in controlled conditions which exposed adult and juvenile oysters to different pollutants (atrazine, a herbicide, and cadmium, a heavy metal) frequently found in Marennes-Oléron Bay. A positive correlation between atrazine concentration and aneuploidy in C. gigas was observed. Moreover, the impact of atrazine on aneuploidy level persisted in time both within and between generations, demonstrating the influence of an environmental pollution on this phenomenon.
