Leaf damage in a mangrove swamp at Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Rev. Bras. Bot.
Menezes,Luis Fernando Tavares de; Peixoto,Ariane Luna.
Leaf damage to Rhizophora mangle L., Avicennia schaueriana Stapf. & Leechman, and Laguncularia racemosa L. was studied in a two hectare mangrove swamp site in Sepetiba Bay. Seventeen arthropod morphospecies were identified as being responsible for the damage, and their species diversity was highest on A. schaueriana, followed by R. mangle and L. racemosa. Damage in terms of relative area was greatest in L. racemosa. Almost 9% of mangrove canopy leaf area demonstrated some damage. Loss of leaf area to herbivory was 12.1%, 8.3% and 6.2% in L. racemosa, A. schaueriana and R. mangle respectively. L. racemosa and A. schaueriana showed high percentages of leaf-margin damage in terms of the total damaged leaf area (82.2% and 56.3% respectively), while the...

Composição química do solo e das folhas e eficiência do uso de nutrientes por espécies de manguezal AGRIAMBI
Madi,Ana P. L. M.; Boeger,Maria R. T.; Reissmann,Carlos B..

SOIL-PLANT NUTRIENT INTERACTIONS IN TWO MANGROVE AREAS AT SOUTHERN BRAZIL Acta biol.Colomb.
LANG MARTINS MADI,Ana Paula; TORRES BOEGER,Maria Regina; REISSMANN,Carlos Bruno; GERONAZZO MARTINS,Kelly.
Mangrove forests have a simple architecture. They shelter a few number of arboreal species that grow in a saline environment subject to tidal activity. The research objective was to evaluate possible interactions between physical-chemical soil attributes and plant-leaf nutrient concentrations of different mangrove species. Different mangrove species growing in the same soil, and the same mangrove species growing in two different soil classes were evaluated as to their leaf nutrient concentration patterns. The study was carried out in mangrove areas of the State of Paraná, southern Brazil, in two distinct soil classes: HISTOSOL THIOMORPHIC Salic sodic and GLEYSOL THIOMORPHIC Salic sodic; and three different species: Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia...

Evaluation of cytotoxicity and wound healing activity of Avicennia schaueriana in cream Anais da ABC (AABC)
LOPES,CAROLINE M.I.; BARATELLA-EVÊNCIO,LIRIANE; SOUZA,IVONE A. DE; OLIVEIRA,ERWELLY B. DE; SÁ,JÉSSICA G.A.; SANTANA,MARLLON A.N.; MARCELINO NETO,PEDRO P.; SANTANA,EDUARDA S. DE; SILVA,LUZIA A. DA; VIEIRA,JEYMESSON R.C..
Abstract:Avicennia schaueriana is found in Brazilian mangrove coast. The cytotoxicity in vitro of the Aqueous Extract of Leaves of Avicennia schaueriana (AELAs) and the healing activity of the plant in cream on mice skin wounds were evaluated in this study. The cytotoxic evaluation was performed on Vero cells. The healing activity was evaluated on mice treated during 5, 10 and 15 days with cream at 5%, solution of sodium chloride at 0.9% and dexpanthenol in cream at 5%. The extract did not show cytotoxicity, but showed mitogenic activity (100μg/ml). In morphometric analysis, the percentage of wound contraction after 10 days was higher in dexpanthenol group (93.41%). In 15 days, the lowest percentage of contraction was observed in the dexpanthenol group...

Distribution of Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in Two Mangroves of Southern Brazil BABT
Madi,Ana Paula Lang Martins; Boeger,Maria Regina Torres; Reissmann,Carlos Bruno.
ABSTRACT This study assessed the relation between Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in the soils of the mangroves of Antonina and Guaratuba, on the coastline of the State of Paraná, and in the leaf tissues of A. shauerianaR. mangle, and L. racemosa through the analysis of correlation levels between these two compartments. Leaf samples were collected for ten individuals of each species in a 1000 m2 area delimited in each mangrove. Soil samples from 0-10 cm depth were taken from under the crown projection area of the selected trees to be submitted to chemical analysis. In the soils, metallic micronutrients presented the following order: Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu. In the leaves, concentrations were species dependent. InA. shaueriana and R. mangle, the profile was Mn >...
