Biochemical survey of the polar head of plant glycosylinositolphosphoceramides unravels broad diversity ArchiMer

Although Glycosyl-Inositol-Phospho-Ceramides (GIPCs) are the main sphingolipids of plant tissues, they remain poorly characterized in term of structures. This lack of information, notably with regard to polar heads, currently hampers the understanding of GIPC functions in biological systems. This situation prompted us to undertake a large scale-analysis of plant GIPCs: 23 plant species chosen in various phylogenetic groups were surveyed for their total GIPC content. GIPCs were extracted and their polar heads were characterized by negative ion MALDI and ESI mass spectrometry. Our data shed light on an unexpected broad diversity of GIPC distributions within Plantae, and the occurrence of yet-unreported GIPC structures in green and red algae. In monocots,...

Vegetative propagation of raspberry from leafy cuttings Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Marchi,Priscila Monalisa; Antunes,Luis Eduardo Corrêa; Pereira,Ivan dos Santos; Höhn,Daniela; Valgas,Ricardo Alexandre.
Abstract The study aimed to evaluate rooting of raspberry cultivars from leafy cuttings in two seasons, autumn and winter. The cultivars Schöenmann, Willamette, Heritage, Polana, Indian Summer, Fall Gold, Golden Bliss and Bababerry were evaluated. Assessments were done 90 days after the installation for both seasons, evaluating the following traits: percentage of cuttings with callus; rooted and live cuttings; the longest root length; and dry mass of roots and sprouting. The results showed that is possible to obtain good rooting rates from leafy cuttings of raspberry cultivars in autumn, and regular in winter. The cultivars Bababerry, Schoenmann and Golden Bliss had higher rooting percentage, followed by Heritage, Polana, Willamette and Fallgold. The...

Yield and quality of primocane-fruiting raspberry grown under plastic cover in southern Brazil Scientia Agricola
Marchi,Priscila Monalisa; Carvalho,Ivan Ricardo; Pereira,Ivan dos Santos; Rosa,Tiago Corazza da; Höhn,Daniela; Szareski,Vinícius Jardel; Reisser Júnior,Carlos; Antunes,Luis Eduardo Corrêa.
ABSTRACT: Raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) is an economically important crop and its cultivation has been expanded across temperate and subtropical regions of Brazil. Growing raspberries under plastic cover has becoming more common worldwide. This study investigated the effect of plastic cover on productive and morphological performance of primocane-fruiting raspberry cultivars, in southern Brazil. The experiment was arranged in a 3 × 2 × 2 factorial design, with three raspberry cultivars, ‘Heritage’; ‘Fallgold’ and ‘Alemãzinha’; two cultivation systems, presence and absence of plastic cover; and two production cycles, fall and spring. We measured days from transplanting to flowering and harvesting. Plants were evaluated for dry mass of pruning, plant height,...

Blackberry Vinegar Produced By Successive Acetification Cycles: Production, Characterization And Bioactivity Parameters BABT
Cunha,Mário Antônio Alves da; Lima,Kely Priscila de; Santos,Vidiany Aparecida Queiroz; Heinz,Otto Lucas; Schmidt,Carla Adriana Pizarro.
ABSTRACT: Blackberry vinegar was produced in successive acetification cycles and content of total phenolics, anthocyanins and antioxidant activity were evaluated along the production. Firstly, blackberry wine was obtained in bench-scale bioreactor, being verified 0.39 g/g ethanol yield, 1.78 g/L.h volumetric productivity and 76% efficiency. After, three successive acetification cycles were conducted efficiently in grapia barrel with average acetic acid production of 51.6 g/L, 72.2 % acetic acid yield and 0.4 g/L.h volumetric productivity. Appreciable contents of polyphenolic compounds, anthocyanins and high antioxidant activity were observed in the raw material, wine and vinegar obtained in each cycle of acetic acid transformation. Acetic acid...

Comparison of the total phenolic content, total anthocyanin content and antioxidant activity of polyphenol-rich fruits grown in Chile Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Fredes,Carolina; Montenegro,Gloria; Zoffoli,Juan Pablo; Santander,Francisca; Robert,Paz.
In the last 10 years, interest in research on polyphenol-rich fruit species has increased due to the potential health benefits of these species, mainly attributed to their high anthocyanin content and antioxidant activity. Six polyphenol-rich fruit species (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, pomegranates and maqui berries) were harvested at the same maturity stage during the same growing season and were compared according to their total phenolic (Folin-Ciocalteu method) and total anthocyanin (pH differential method) contents and antioxidant activity using ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP assay) and 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging capacity methods. With the results of this study, the polyphenolic status of the...
