Cellulase effect on anaerobic digestion of maize silage under discontinuous operation REA
Oliva-Merencio,Deny; Pereda-Reyes,Ileana; Schimpf,Ulrike; Koehler,Stefan; Silva,Ariovaldo J. da.
ABSTRACT This paper studied the effect of adding an enzyme (ellulose) on anaerobic digestion of maize silage. We compared materials at chopping lengths of 8 mm (MSL), 4mm (MSS) and natural size (Ms) under a mesophilic and discontinuous operation (batch process). Hence, we found the process to be significantly influenced by particle size. Moreover, the ellulose addition did not significantly impact biogas production after a 35-day digestion period. Ms and MSS displayed an improved response to all variables when compared with MSL and MSL+C, with significant differences. Studies on the refractory fraction at infinite time (R0) have demonstrated that the lowest values correspond to Ms and MSS (0.122 and 0.155, respectively). The Kinetic approach and the...

USE OF PHOTOLYSIS (ARTIFICIAL RADIATION- UV) AS AN ADVANCED OXIDATION PROCESS (AOP) FOR POLISHING SWINE WASTEWATER TREATED IN ANAEROBIC REACTORS - DOI: 10.13083/1414-3984/reveng.v23n3p228-240 Engenharia na Agricultura

Among the numerous processes reported for sterilization of contaminated effluents, the advanced oxidative process (AOP) stands out for being effective in polishing degrading dissolved organic compounds. When comparing the various AOP(s), the UV photic process is advantageous since does not use catalysts and oxidizing reagents but only UV degradation, thus resulting in an effluent suitable for reuse and avoiding financial expenses related to chemical consumption. The present study sought after evaluating the efficiency of UV light, generated by special lamps in photo-reactors, degrading dissolved compounds and sterilizing microorganisms present in the effluent of anaerobic reactors treating hog farm effluents, aimed at improving the quality of the treated...

Petroleum degrading microorganisms have been isolated from different environments with the purpose of being used in bioremediation processes in areas impacted by petroleum spills. The objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of Bacillus toyonensis AM07 strain to metabolize petroleum compounds. The strain was isolated from the effluent dike of the Urucu Petroleum Province, Coari - Amazonas, Brazil. The degrading activity of B. toyonensis was evaluated by the colorimetric method using the redox indicator 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP). Thus, the microorganism was inoculated into minimal medium with DCPIP, and with petroleum as the sole carbon source. The degradation potential of the microorganism was found by changing the DCPIP staining and...

Anaerobic biodegradability of dairy wastewater pretreated with porcine pancreas lipase BABT
Mendes,Adriano Aguiar; Pereira,Ernandes Benedito; Furigo Jr.,Agenor; Castro,Heizir Ferreira de.
Lipids-rich wastewater was partial hydrolyzed with porcine pancreas lipase and the efficiency of the enzymatic pretreatment was verified by the comparative biodegradability tests (crude and treated wastewater). Alternatively, simultaneous run was carried out in which hydrolysis and digestion was performed in the same reactor. Wastewater from dairy industries and low cost lipase preparation at two concentrations (0.05 and 0.5% w.v-1) were used. All the samples pretreated with enzyme showed a positive effect on organic matter removal (Chemical Oxygen Demand-COD) and formation of methane. The best results were obtained when hydrolysis and biodegradation were performed simultaneously, attaining high COD and color removal independent of the lipase...

Effect on the enzymatic hydrolysis of lipids from dairy wastewater by replacing Gum Arabic emulsifier for sodium chloride BABT
Mendes,Adriano Aguiar; Castro,Heizir Ferreira de.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the replacement of Gum Arabic for sodium chloride to reduce fat and organic contents in dairy wastewater using two low cost commercially available lipase preparations from animal source (Kin Master - LKM and Nuclear- LNU). The best performance was achieved when lipase Nuclear (LNU) was used as catalyst. In addition, this lipase preparation has also lower cost, which makes its use a quite promising technique for reduction of suspended solids as proteins and lipids contents found in wastewater generated by dairy industries.

Biodegradability of commercial and weathered diesel oils BJM
Mariano,Adriano Pinto; Bonotto,Daniel Marcos; Angelis,Dejanira de Franceschi de; Pirôllo,Maria Paula Santos; Contiero,Jonas.
This work aimed to evaluate the capability of different microorganisms to degrade commercial diesel oil in comparison to a weathered diesel oil collected from the groundwater at a petrol station. Two microbiological methods were used for the biodegradability assessment: the technique based on the redox indicator 2,6 - dichlorophenol indophenol (DCPIP) and soil respirometric experiments using biometer flasks. In the former we tested the bacterial cultures Staphylococcus hominis, Kocuria palustris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa LBI, Ochrobactrum anthropi and Bacillus cereus, a commercial inoculum, consortia obtained from soil and groundwater contaminated with hydrocarbons and a consortium from an uncontaminated area. In the respirometric experiments it was...

Mulching materials and wetted soil percentages on zucchini cultivation Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Gustavo Henrique da; Cunha,Fernando França da; Morais,Caio Vieira de; Freitas,Agnaldo Roberto de Jesus; Silva,Derly José Henriques da; Souza,Caetano Marciano de.
ABSTRACT Polyethylene mulch can cause serious problems in the environment. A promising alternative to polyethylene mulch is biodegradable mulch. Therefore, a two-year experiment was carried out with zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) during the cropping seasons of 2017 and 2018 in Southeast Brazil to investigate the effects of four soil mulching treatments (white polyethylene mulch: WP, black polyethylene mulch: BP, biodegradable mulch of brown recycled paper: RP and nonmulched: NM) and two wetted soil percentages (50 and 70% of the soil surface) using a randomized block design with five repetitions. The average water consumption of the zucchini was 157 mm in the WP treatment, 155 mm in the BP treatment, 155 mm in the WP treatment and 215 mm in the NM treatment....
