Acaricidal activity of extracts from different structures of Piper tuberculatum against larvae and adults of Rhipicephalus microplus Acta Amazonica
BRAGA,Andrina Guimarães Silva; SOUZA,Krishna Ferri Alencar de; BARBIERI,Fabio da Silva; FERNANDES,Cleberson de Freitas; ROCHA,Rodrigo Barros; VIEIRA JUNIOR,José Roberto; LACERDA,Clariana Lins; CELESTINO,Caroline Oliveira; FACUNDO,Valdir Alves; BRITO,Luciana Gatto.
ABSTRACT The strategies to control the cattle tick, Rhipicephalus microplus are based mainly on the use of synthetic pesticides. However, the emergence, establishment, and development of resistance of ticks is rendering the main chemical groups ineffective. Finding new molecules to effectively control infestations by R. microplus is necessary to maintain the productivity of cattle herds, particularly of taurine breeds established in equatorial and tropical regions of the world. Ethanol extracts from the leaves, stems, and fruits of Piper tuberculatum were evaluated in bioassays at concentrations of 50, 25, 12.50, 6.25, 3.12 and 1.56 mg mL-1. The concentrations lethal to 50% of the individuals (LC50) of tick larvae after 24 hours of exposure were 3.62, 3.99...

Analysis of biological parameters of Boophilus microplus Canestrini, 1887 exposed to entomopathogenic nematodes Steinernema carpocapsae Santa Rosa and All strains (Steinernema: Rhabditida) BABT
Freitas-Ribeiro,Gláucia Marques; Furlong,John; Vasconcelos,Viviane Oliveira; Dolinski,Cláudia; Loures-Ribeiro,Alan.
Engorged and partially engorged females of Boophilus microplus were exposed to 600; 3,000; 6,000 and 30,000 infective juveniles of Steinernema carpocapsae Weiser, 1955 Santa Rosa and All strains per dish, under lab conditions. Eggs weight, pre-laying period, laying period, survival period, reproductive efficiency rate, percentage of larval eclosion and lethal concentrations of 50% and 90% (CL50 and CL90) were calculated for engorged females. In the case of partially engorged females, only egg weight, survival period and CL50 and CL90 were calculated. All biological parameters of engorged or partially engorged females were altered by exposition of S. carpocapsae infective juveniles (IJs), Santa Rosa and All strains (p<0.05). The increase in the response...

Evaluation of activity of the crude ethanolic extract of Magonia pubescens St. Hil (Sapindaceae) against larvae of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Canestrini, 1887) (Acari: Ixodidae) BABT
Fernandes,Fernando de Freitas; Bessa,Priscilla Antunes Diógenes; Freitas,Edméia de Paula e Souza.
The acaricidal potential of the crude ethanolic extract (c.e.e.) of the stem peel of Magonia pubescens was evaluated against larvae of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. The larvae were placed in filter paper envelopes impregnated with different concentrations of c.e.e., dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and distilled water for determination of lethal concentrations (LC). The following treatments were used: 1. Envelopes of dry filter paper; 2. Envelopes of filter paper moistened with distilled water; 3. Envelopes of filter paper moistened with a solution of DMSO in distilled water; and 4. Envelopes moistened with 2 mL of each concentration of the c.e.e. to be tested. The bioassays were carried out in quadruplicate at 27°±1° C and RH e"80% and 12h...

o carrapato e a tristeza parasitaria bovina. Infoteca-e
SAUERESSIG, T. M..
Tick fever is a general name for a disease caused by both or either haemoparasites Babesia and Anaplasma. Cattle tick Boophilus microplus is the vector of the disease although anaplasmosis can also be transmitted by blood sucking insects. In most regions of Brazil, B. microplus can occur throughout the year because of suitable climate conditions. In the brazilian savannah region there are two or three cattle tick generations per year with a infestation peak in october. The increasing use of cultivated pastures and crosses with tick-susceptible european breeds has decreased resistance of zebu cattle in this region and control measures are suggested. Total control of B. microplus, howecer, can decrease cattle imunity and favours the occurence of tick fever....

Resistencia do carrapato Boophilus microplus a carrapaticidas no Brasil Central. Infoteca-e
SAUERESSIG, T. M..

Esterase profile in the postembryonic development of Rhipicephalusmicroplus PAB
Baffi,Milla Alves; Pereira,Cícero Donizete; Souza,Guilherme Rocha Lino de; Ceron,Carlos Roberto; Bonetti,Ana Maria.
The objective of this work was to analyze the pattern of esterase activity in the development stages of Rhipicephalus microplus by nondenaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis using specific staining for esterase. The electrophoretical results revealed the presence of nine regions displaying esterase activity, stained with both alpha-naphthyl acetate and beta-naphthyl acetate, and classified as alpha-beta-esterase. Stage-specific esterases were found, with the first nymphal and larval stages showing the greatest esterase activity throughout the development. An esterase called EST-4 was detected only in males and was considered sex-specific. There are differences in the esterase profile among the different postembryonic development stages of R. microplus.
