Spectral indices for chlorophyll seasonal dynamics analysis in leaves of Eucalyptus grandis PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira
Goergen, Laura Camila de Godoy; Soares, Julio Cesar Wincher; Berra, Elias Fernando; Brandelero, Catize; Pereira, Rudiney Soares.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of different spectral indices - MCARI705, R750/R700, R750/R550 and MTCI - in the description of chlorophyll seasonal dynamics in detached leaves of Eucalyptus grandis in four seasons. The study was conducted in three plots of 600 m2, in a 20 months old stand. We collected 15 leaves from three layers of canopy, totalizing 45 leaves for each season. It was used a spectroradiometer FieldSpec®3, which covers the spectral range from 350 to 2,500 nm. Variance analysis (ANOVA) and Tukey test at 5% significance level were carried out. For all spectral indices, values observed in spring were different from those from summer; the same occurred between fall and winter.

Cantuarias-Avilés,Tatiana; Silva,Simone Rodrigues da; Angolini,Sérgio Figueiredo; Brogio,Bruna do Amaral; Baptista,Edypol Guilherme; Micheletti,Lígia Broglio.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of supplemental irrigation, during winter dry season, on the water status and productivity of 'Hass' avocado (Persea Americana) trees. The experiment was carried out on a clayey Oxisol from 2014 to 2016, when extreme climatic events were recorded in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The rainfed regime was compared with two irrigation regimes, applied during the whole and half of the irrigation run time defined by the grower, corresponding to 5,091 and 2,545 m3 ha-1 water, respectively. The following variables were evaluated: soil water tension; leaf water potential, color, and chlorophyll content; leaf and fruit abscission rates; tree size; and fruit size and yield. Supplemental irrigation...

Seed priming and sulfur effects on soybean cell membrane stability and yield in saline soil PAB
Bejandi,Teymur Khandan; Sedghi,Mohammad; Sharifi,Raouf Seyed; Namvar,Ali; Molaei,Peyman.
The objective of this work was to determine the effects of seed priming and sulfur application on cell membrane characteristics, seedling emergence, chlorophyll content and grain yield of soybean (Glycine max) in saline soil. A complete-block design in 4x3 factorial arrangement with three replicates was used to test four types of seed priming (water, auxin, gibberellin and non-priming) and three levels of sulfate availability (0, 70 and 140 kg ha-1 K2SO4). The soil had a silty loam texture with an electrical conductivity of 3.61 ds m-1, a pH of 8.2 and a saturation percentage of about 46%. Seed priming had significant effects on mean emergence rate (MER), emergence percentage, relative water content (RWC) of leaves, relative chlorophyll content, time of...

Identification of cowpea genotypes for drought tolerance Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Bastos,Edson Alves; Nascimento,Sebastião Pereira do; Silva,Everaldo Moreira da; Freire Filho,Francisco Rodrigues; Gomide,Reinaldo Lúcio.
The genotypes selection for drought tolerance is very important for world food production, principally in arid regions or sites with irregular rain distribution. The objective of this work was to identify cowpea genotypes with drought tolerance and water stress sensitivity characteristics. Two experiments were carried out with 20 treatments and four replications, one under water deficit during reproductive phase and another one under full irrigation. The water deficit was obtained applying half the water depth required by cowpea. The leaf area index, chlorophyll content, grain components and grain yield were evaluated. The water deficit reduced 20% the leaf area index, 16% the chlorophyll content, 175% the pod number per plant and 60% the grain yield. The...

Symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacterial populations trapped from soils under agroforestry systems in the Western Amazon Scientia Agricola
Jaramillo,Paula Marcela Duque; Guimarães,Amanda Azarias; Florentino,Ligiane Aparecida; Silva,Karina Barroso; Nóbrega,Rafaela Simão Abrahão; Moreira,Fatima Maria de Souza.
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is an important grain-producing legume that can forego nitrogen fertilization by establishing an efficient symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Although inoculating strains have already been selected for this species, little is known about the genotypic and symbiotic diversity of native rhizobia. Recently, Bradyrhizobium has been shown to be the genus most frequently trapped by cowpea in agricultural soils of the Amazon region. We investigated the genetic and symbiotic diversity of 148 bacterial strains with different phenotypic and cultural properties isolated from the nodules of the trap species cowpea, which was inoculated with samples from soils under agroforestry systems from the western Amazon. Sixty non-nodulating...

Photosynthetic light response of the C4 grasses Brachiaria brizantha and B. humidicola under shade Scientia Agricola
Dias-Filho,Moacyr Bernardino.
Forage grasses in tropical pastures can be subjected to considerable diurnal and seasonal reductions in available light. To evaluate the physiological behavior of the tropical forage grasses Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu and B. humidicola to low light, the photosynthetic light response and chlorophyll contents of these species were compared for plants grown outdoors, on natural soil, in pots, in full sunlight and those shaded to 30 % of full sunlight, over a 30-day period. Both species showed the ability to adjust their photosynthetic behavior in response to shade. Photosynthetic capacity and light compensation point were lower for shade plants of both species, while apparent quantum yield was unaffected by the light regime. Dark respiration and...

Seed vigor, antioxidant metabolism and initial growth characteristics of red rice seedlings under different light intensities Acta Botanica
Aumonde,Tiago Zanatta; Pedó,Tiago; Borella,Junior; Amarante,Luciano do; Villela,Francisco Amaral.
This work aimed to evaluate the effect that different intensities of light have on the physiological attributes of red rice seeds and seedlings. Before and after emergence, seedlings were exposed to light levels of 35%; 65% and 100% in a greenhouse. We evaluated shoots and roots, in terms of length and dry mass, as well as leaf area and content of chlorophyll (a,b and total). In leaves and roots, we quantified the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT) and guaiacol peroxidase (POX). We determined the leaf area ratio (F A), leaf mass ratio (F W), specific leaf area (S A), and shoot/root ratio (P W). At higher light intensities, shoot length decreased, whereas root length, dry mass and number of tillers increased....

Assessment of cadmium on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in hydroponics medium Agrociencia
Idrees,Saiba; Shabir,Sumera; Ilyas,Noshin; Batool,Nazima; Kanwal,Sidra.
Cadmium is a non-essential heavy metal that adversely affects plant growth. Its growth retarding effect has been revealed in different crops. The present research was devised to evaluate the Cd effect on the wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars NARC-11 and Galaxy in the hydroponic system. The effect of three concentrations of CdCl2•5H2O (150 μM, 200 μM and 250 μM) were evaluated on seed germination and seedling growth. The study lasted 36 d and Cd concentrations were applied after the interval of 7 d. The experimental design was completely randomized. The results showed that Cd significantly reduced the seed germination (20 % and 30 %), seedling fresh (32 % and 28 %) and dry weight (31 % and 30 %), shoot length (13 % and 14 %), root length (12.5 % and...

In vitro behaviour of Aspasia variegata, an epiphytic orchid from the Brazilian Cerrado Ciência Rural
Paiva Neto,Vespasiano Borges de; Campos,Guilherme de Oliveira; Boaretto,Amanda Galdi; Zuffo,Monica Cristina Rezende; Torrezan,Mateus de Aguiar; Benetão,Jamile.
Aspasia variegata occurs naturally in the savanna of the Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil and it has been widely collected for its beautiful flowers. Additionally, its habitat has been greatly reduced and little or no investigation of its spread has been performed. Aiming to establish a protocol to obtain seedlings of the orchid A. variegata, different compositions of culture medium were tested to identify which one provided better in vitro growth and development and to assess the influence of these media in seedling acclimatisation. Thus, seeds obtained from mature capsules were inoculated in Knudson culture medium for 120 days until the protocorm stage. They were transferred to different culture media formulations, including MS and Knudson with half or...

Chlorophyll content for millet leaf using hyperspectral imaging and an attention-convolutional neural network Ciência Rural
Xiaoyan,Wang; Zhiwei,Li; Wenjun,Wang; Jiawei,Wang.
ABSTRACT: Chlorophyll is a major factor affecting photosynthesis; and consequently, crop growth and yield. In this study, we devised a chlorophyll-content detection model for millet leaves in different stages of growth based on hyperspectral data. The hyperspectral images of millet leaves were obtained under a wavelength range of 380-1000 nm using a hyperspectral imager. Threshold segmentation was performed with near-infrared (NIR) reflectance and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) to intelligently acquire the regions of interest (ROI). Furthermore, raw spectral data were preprocessed using multivariate scatter correction (MSC). A correlation coefficient-successive projections algorithm (CC-SPA) was used to extract the characteristic...
