Insecticidal activity of cerrado plant extracts on Rhodnius milesi Carcavallo, Rocha, Galvão & Jurberg (Hemiptera: Reduviidae), under laboratory conditions Neotropical Entomology
Coelho,André A.M.; Paula,José E. de; Espíndola,Laila S..
Chagas' disease is chiefly transmitted by feces of haematophagous bugs (Triatominae) that ingested Trypanosoma cruzi from blood of infected people or animals. Pyrethroids have been the main insecticides used against these insects. However, some populations of insects have shown significant levels of resistance to several pyrethroids, indicating the need of new insecticides for the control of triatomines. Insecticidal activity of 24 Cerrado plant extracts belonging to five species of four families were assayed on fourth instar nymphs of Rhodnius milesi Carcavallo, Rocha, Galvão & Jurberg (Hemiptera: Reduviidae), under laboratory conditions. For the extract application on triatomines, 50 µg of the extract were topically applied in duplicate on dorsal...

การใช้เซลล์แขวนลอยและสารสกัดหยาบของแบคทีเรีย Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 ในการควบคุมโรคแอนแทรคโนสบนผลพริก Thai Agricultural
Pattamawan Maneesuwan; Pisan Sirithorn.
The five concentrations of cell suspension of Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 each applied to reduce the disease symptom caused by Colletotrichum capsici using the detached fruit technique with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The statistical analysis indicated that inoculation of cell suspension prior to inoculation of C. capsici gave more disease severity reduction than inoculation of C. capsici prior to inoculation of cell suspension. The optimal concentration that reduced disease severity; without adverse effect was at 1x104-1x105 cfu/ml prior to inoculation of C. capsici for 24 hours as disease severity was reduced by 35.8% and 34.8%, respectively. The cell suspension at the concentrations between 1x106 to 1x108 cfu/ml induced fruit rot to 10-50%....

ผลของแบคทีเรีย Bacillus licheniformis BFP011 ในการยับยั้งเชื้อรา Colletotrichum capsici สาเหตุโรคแอนแทรคโนสของพริก Thai Agricultural
Pattamawan Maneesuwan; Pisan Sirithorn.
Capability of 11 isolates of Bacillus spp. previously reported as antagonistic against some plant pathogens was tested. This is to inhibit the growth of four isolates of Colletotrichum capsici isolated from stalk, leaf, fruit and 158 ci/KU, by employing Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 11 treatments with 4 replications. The results showed that B. licheniformis BFP011 exhibited the most promising inhibition. Similarly, the evaporated crude extract produced by B. licheniformis BFP011 was able to inhibit greatly growth of C. capsici. When mycelium and spores of C. capsici were immersed in cell suspension at 1x108 cfu/ml and the evaporated crude extract at 1,000 mg/ml of B. licheniformis BFP011 for 24 hours. It is obvious that abnormal hypha...

In this study, crude extract of Alpinia galangal (Linn.) Swartz was separated into 2 fractions by column chromatography. The seeds of 6 species of crops and weeds (Oryza sativa, Zea mays L., Arachis hypogaea, Brassica iboglabra, Praxellis clematidea and Echinachola colonum) were placed in media containing either fraction A or B at various concentrations of 1%, 3% and 5%. The percentages of germination and growth of each species were measured. Fraction A at 5% resulted in the highest inhibition of germination for Oryza sativa, Zea mays L., Arachis hypogaea and Brassica iboglabra. In contrast, the germination of Praxellis clematidea and Echinachola colonum was most inhibited on media containing fraction B at 5%. The growth of the leaf width and stem length...

Effects of Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng) pedersen aqueous extract on healing acetic acid-induced ulcers BABT
Freitas,Cristina Setim; Baggio,Cristiane Hatsuko; Araújo,Samanta Luiza; Marques,Maria Consuelo Andrade.
The present study was carried out to evaluate the acute toxicity and the effect of the aqueous extract of the roots from Pfaffia glomerata (Spreng) Pedersen (Amaranthaceae) (AEP) on the prevention of acetic acid-induced ulcer and on the healing process of previously induced ulcers. The acute toxicity was evaluated in Swiss mice after oral administration of a single dose and the chronic gastric ulcer was induced with local application of acetic acid. The results showed that the LD50 of the extract was 684.6 mg.kg-1 for the intraperitoneal administration and higher than 10 mg.kg-1by the oral route. The administration of the AEP did not prevent ulcers formation. However, the AEP increased of the healing process of previously induced ulcers. The results...

Acaricide activity of leaves extracts of Sambucus australis Schltdl. (Caprifoliaceae) at 2% on engorged females of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus Ciência Rural
Krawczak,Felipe da Silva; Buzatti,Andréia; Pivoto,Felipe Lamberti; Sangioni,Luís Antônio; Vogel,Fernanda Silveira Flores; Botton,Sônia de Avila; Zanetti,Gilberto Dolejal; Manfron,Melânia Palermo.
Parasite infections caused by Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus are responsible for the most of economic losses in producing-cattle countries in tropical and subtropical areas. Indiscriminate uses of chemical acaricides have contributed with the appearance of tick resistance to many drugs available in the marketplace, and it is a serious problem in the tick control. Flowers of Sambucus australis (South America), called "sabugueiro-from-Brazil", are used on infusions or decoctions forms in the folk medicine with diuretic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and laxative purpose, also employed for treating respiratory diseases in human. The main goal of this study was to evaluate in vitro potential of S. australis leaves extracts as an acaricide agent. Ethanol...
