Ample evidence suggests that cancer is triggered by mutagenic damage and diets or supplements capable of reducing such incidences can be related to the prevention of neoplasy development or to an improvement in life quality of patients who undergo chemotherapy. This research aimed to evaluate the antimutagenic and antigenotoxic activity of β-glucan. The present study assessed central nervous system (CNS) and immune system changes in murine fetuses after cyclophosphamide (CP) exposure during intrauterine life. A single CP dose of 0, 10, or 20mg/kg body weight was administered by intraperitoneal inj ection to pregnant mice (20/group) on day 11 of gestation (GD 11) and fetuses were evaluated on day 19 of gestation (GD 19). The present study has the aim to describe morphologically, morphometrically and stereologically some changes in the tongue epithelium of rat fetuses under the effect of cyclosphosphamide. This drug was used in a single 6mg/kg according to the body weight in the tenth pregnancy day while the control group received equal dosage of saline solution by the same duct and in the same day of pregnancy. Large numbers of cyclophosphamide- or carrageenan-pretreated immunosuppressed adult ddY mice died within 10 days after inoculation with several species of opportunistic bacteria, including P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, E. coli, S. aureus and methicillin resistant S. aureus. ABSTRACT Metronomic chemotherapy consists of an anticancer modality treatment. It is applicable in patients at an advanced stage, with the objective of increasing overall survival. The aim of this study was to report an anal sac apocrine carcinoma case in a dog with lymph node metastasis treated with metronomic chemotherapy sequential to surgery and conventional chemotherapy using gemcitabine and carboplatin. The effects of mimosine (MI), which is an amino acid that is derived from Leucaena leucocephala, were evaluated on the growth of ascitic Ehrlich tumors, and the effects of the combination treatment of MI and cyclophosphamide (CY) on tumor growth were also assessed. Mice were divided into groups that received the following treatments over the course of 20 days: phosphate buffer solution (CO), MI, Ehrlich cells (E), E plus CY (EC), E plus MI (EM) and E plus MI and CY (EMC). We evaluated the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus (TAC) combined with corticosteroids in treating patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN). One hundred seventy-seven biopsy-proven IMN patients were recruited in this retrospective clinical study. Sixty patients received TAC (target blood concentration of 4–8 ng/mL) and 117 patients received daily cyclophosphamide (CYC, 100 mg) combined with prednisone. The aim of the present study was to identify the risk factors for ovarian failure in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. Seventy-one women aged 17 to 45 years with systemic lupus erythematosus were studied. Patients were interviewed and their medical records reviewed. Demographic characteristics, clinical and serologic profiles, and menstrual and obstetric histories were recorded. Disease activity was measured by the systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index. Sialic acid changes in Dalton's lymphoma cells and other tissues of 10-12-week-old Swiss albino mice were investigated in relation to tumour growth in vivo and following cyclophosphamide (ip, 200 mg/kg body weight) or cisplatin (ip, 8 mg/kg body weight) treatment. Three to four animals of both sexes were used in each experimental group. The sialic acid level of tumour cells (0.88 µmol/g) increased with tumour progression (1.44-1.59 µmol/g; P<=0.05) in mice.
