Price Developments on the World Markets for Milk Products: The Case of Butter AgEcon
Hockmann, Heinrich; Voneki, Eva.
A time series model is estimated to identify the interrelation among prices on the international and the EU domestic market for butter. Although the findings were not derived from a causal model, the inspection of the data provides economically reasonable and important insights in structural relationship between international and domestic prices. It can be expected that similar relationships exists for other milk products as well. The fact that international prices in the EU and Oceania are causal for each other is an indication of an integrated market. However, price transmission is not perfect suggesting that competition between the EU and Oceania exists, however, but not as intense as it could be expected for a homogeneous good like butter. The...

Popp, Jozsef; Potori, Norbert; Papp, Gergely.

Since the EU accession, domestic milk production has continuously declined, the balance of the foreign trade of milk and dairy products has deteriorated year after year and the degree of self-sufficiency has fallen below 100%. This paper, drawing on the study of Popp and Potori [2009], analyses why the competitive position of the Hungarian milk and dairy sector has collapsed in recent years.

Factors Constraining Efficiency of Russian Corporate Farms: The Case of the Moscow Region AgEcon
Hockmann, Heinrich; Svetlov, Nikolai M..
A time series model is estimated to identify the interrelation among prices on the international and the EU domestic market for butter. Although the findings were not derived from a causal model, the inspection of the data provides economically reasonable and important insights in structural relationship between international and domestic prices. The fact that international prices in the EU and Oceania are causal for each other is an indication of an integrated market. Price transmission is not perfect suggesting that competition between the EU and Oceania exists, however, but not as intense as it could be expected for a homogeneous good like butter. The estimates provide that the EU absorbs price fluctuations form the word market. Interestingly, changes...

A magyar tejvertikum diagnózisa AgEcon
Popp, Jozsef; Potori, Norbert; Papp, Gergely.
Magyarország tejtermelése az EU-csatlakozást követően visszaesett. A többnyire alacsony átvételi árak és a szigorúbb minőségi követelmények miatt az elmúlt években sok tejtermelő kiszorult a piacról. A tej- és tejtermékek külkereskedelmében 2004 óta mind volumenben, mind értékben nettó importőri pozícióba kerültünk. A tejkvóta-rendszer fokozatos kivezetése (a hazai kvóta kihasználtsága alig éri el a 85%-ot) a hazai tejágazatot közvetetten érintheti: a hatékonyabban ter¬melő tagállamok kerülhetnek előnybe a számunkra fontos olaszországi piacon, így értékesítési lehetőségeink szűkülhetnek, a hazai árakra még nagyobb nyomás nehezedhet. Magyarországon a tejfeldolgozás koncentráltsága a vállalatok nagy száma ellenére viszonylag erős. A tejipar kettős prés...

Reform der EU-Milchmarktpolitik bei instabilen Weltmärkten AgEcon
Grams, Michael.
The article examines the market and welfare effects of the current CAP reform and further policy options on the EU dairy market. The main focus is the influence of unstable world markets and the uncertainty it generates in policy analysis which has been widely neglected. The simulations of a stochastic dairy market model reveal that the considered policy options affect the impact of world market instabilities on the EU dairy market. Thus, not only a changing level of producer price or revenues can be expected, but also a changing degree of instability. Policy making without taking such instability changes into account may lead to undesired effects and, finally, could undermine the realisation of policy objectives. Also, the evaluation of the welfare...
