Studies on the ecology of the organisms involved in the production process are necessary for the development of sustainable agriculture, and sustainability is currently closely linked to the profitability of production. The objective of this study was to verify the occurrence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in weeds infesting Brazilian crops and to evaluate the inorganic phosphate solubilization potential of the associated microbiota. A total of 36 weed species were evaluated for the occurrence of mycorrhizae; of these, 11 were selected to evaluate their potential for total and relative phosphate solubilization. All of the species demonstrated mycorrhizal colonization, including a member of the Brassicaceae family, which is usually assumed to be...

Arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization in Asteraceae from white sand savannas, in Pinar del Río, Cuba Biota Neotropica
Rodríguez-Rodríguez,Raquel Milagros; Herrera,Pedro; Furrazola,Eduardo.
Asteraceae family shows a great diversity in Cuba and presents threatened taxons in high number. Pinar del Río has 19 threatened species belonging to this family and three of them are characteristic of a sandy (quartzitic) soil at the Reserva Florística Manejada San Ubaldo-Sabanalamar (Floristic Reserve San Ubaldo-Sabanalamar). The arbuscular mycorrhizal status and colonization rate in Aster grisebachii, Erigeron bellidiastroides, Erigeron cuneifolius, Pectis juniperinaand Sachsia polycephala (Asteraceae) from this Reserve was determined in October 2009 and April 2010, during hydrologic rainy and dry period, respectively. All species were mycotrophic in both periods with a high percentage of colonization rates, between 66 and 100% in rainy period and...

Arbuscular mycorrhizal associations and dark septate endophytes in Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) and a wild relative (Smallanthus macroscyphus) Boletín de la Sociedad
Mercado,Maria I; Coll Aráoz,Maria V; Brandán De Weht,Celia I; Ponessa,Graciela I; Grau,Alfredo.
Mycorrhizal associations in Smallanthus sonchifolius (Poepp. & Endl.) H. Robinson (Asteraceae), Yacon, an ancient Andean crop and Smallanthus macroscyphus (Baker ex Martius) A. Grau, wild yacon, a close wild relative are described for the frst time. Yacon fbrous roots growing under feld conditions have high levels of colonization by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (86 %). Other fungi colonizing roots included dark septate endophytes (45 %) and unidentifed fungi that are probably saprophytic (25 %) were observed. Only 9% of the samples analyzed were not colonized by any type of fungi. Glomus, Acaulospora, Scutellospora, Gigaspora and Pacispora were the main genera of arbuscular mycorrhiza identifed. A similar high degree of mycorrhizal colonization was...

Microdochium Bolleyi (Ascomycota: Xylariales): Physiological characterization and structural features of its association with wheat Boletín de la Sociedad
ROTHEN,CAROLINA; MIRANDA,VICTORIA; FRACCHIA,SEBASTIÁN; GODEAS,ALICIA; RODRÍGUEZ,ALEJANDRA.
Plant roots can be colonized by asymptomatic fungal strains belonging to several taxa, among them, the group defined as Dark Septate Endophytes (DSE). Microdochium bolleyi commonly colonizes wheat roots and other crops. It is considered a weak pathogen or even a non-pathogenic fungal species, which has also been considered as a potential biocontrol agent against aggressive soil-borne pathogens in cereal crops. We isolated a strain of M. bolleyi from wheat roots sampled in a crop feld in Argentina, and characterized its abilities to grow in different carbon and nitrogen sources, to produce indole and to solubilize phosphorus; also several enzymatic activities were evaluated. In addition, resynthesis was performed under controlled conditions in order to...
