Prediction of free-stall occupancy rate in dairycattle barns through fuzzy sets REA
Campos,Alessandro T.; Castro,Jaqueline de O.; Schiassi,Leonardo; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Pires,Maria de Fátima Á.; Mattioli,Cristiano C..
The goal of this study was to develop a fuzzy model to predict the occupancy rate of free-stalls facilities of dairy cattle, aiding to optimize the design of projects. The following input variables were defined for the development of the fuzzy system: dry bulb temperature (Tdb, °C), wet bulb temperature (Twb, °C) and black globe temperature (Tbg, °C). Based on the input variables, the fuzzy system predicts the occupancy rate (OR, %) of dairy cattle in free-stall barns. For the model validation, data collecting were conducted on the facilities of the Intensive System of Milk Production (SIPL), in the Dairy Cattle National Research Center (CNPGL) of Embrapa. The OR values, estimated by the fuzzy system, presented values of average standard deviation of...

METHODOLOGY FOR DIMENSIONING OF A CENTER PIVOT IRRIGATION SYSTEM OPERATING WITH DRIPPER TYPE EMITTER REA
Almeida,Alex N. de; Coelho,Rubens D.; Costa,Jéfferson de O.; Farías,Asdrúbal J..
ABSTRACT: In Brazil, the conventional center pivot is widely used for irrigation of agricultural crops and its use has grown continuously. However, when improperly managed, it facilitates the development of diseases in all parts of the plant, with a direct effect on productivity, besides favoring losses of water by evaporation. The drip may be an alternative, since it minimizes the losses and does not wet the aerial parts of the plants, thereby reducing the incidence of diseases. A new system called localized mobile drip irrigation (IRGMO) is being developed in an attempt to combine the practicality and rusticity of the center pivot with the efficiency and water savings of the dripping irrigation systems. This fusion system is the central pivot with drip...

Sistema de irrigação por aspersão. I. Dimensionamento. Infoteca-e
SOARES, J. M..

Michel, J; Duranton, R.
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, also called "free-swimming vehicles" are self propelled bodies, equipped with their own energy package and with no solid communication link with the surface. At the beginning of the 90s, a renewed interest from the Underwater Intervention Community for autonomous vehicles and quite a number of new projects were announced or started. The present paper aims at presenting an updated State of the Art on the development of autonomous vehicles. It addresses the following points: A brief historical review presents some existing systems and uses. The French experience, in particular, allows to position the potential, and complementary contribution of autonomous vehicles, in a range of various operational systems. A short review of...

AN AGENDA FOR THE DESIGN AND STUDY OF INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENTS AgEcon
Batabyal, Amitrajeet A..
The combination of a general greening of international political debate, and the events of 1992 at the Rio Earth summit have led to great interest in the question of global environmental protection. While it is recognized that international environmental agreements (IEAs) are the means by which the earth’s fragile environment is most likely to be protected, this recognition has been recent. Hence, there is very little formal research on the design and study of IEAs. As such, in this paper, I propose and describe a research agenda for the design and study of IEAs. Very generally, I propose that we frame the IEA design question as a problem in mechanism design. We will then be able to use, inter alia, the theory of common agency and the theory of hierarchies...

From the help desk: It's all about the sampling AgEcon
McDowell, Allen; Pitblado, Jeffrey S..
Effective estimation and inference, when the data are collected using complex survey designs, requires estimators that fully account for the sampling design. This article explores, by means of Monte Carlo simulations of the power of simple hypothesis tests, the consequences of parameter estimation and inference when naive estimators are employed with survey data.

Fiber-reinforced concrete for the flat bottom of silos AGRIAMBI
Constantino,Rodrigo A.; Lopes Neto,José P.; Nóbrega,Marcilene V. da; Nascimento,José W. B. do; Silva,Jefferson H. G. da.
ABSTRACT The use of synthetic fibers as reinforcement for concrete replacing the steel reinforcement has been diffused worldwide in several applications, gaining prominence in the application for industrial floors, tunnel linings, road pavements, etc., i.e., continuous structures in contact with soil that require performance in the elastic medium. The present study investigated the applicability of concrete reinforced with synthetic fibers in the bottom slab of silos supported directly on the ground, being composed of an experimental study and a case study. The experimental study consisted of the analysis of the mechanical behavior of this concrete by testing three concentrations of synthetic fibers (3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 kg m-3) in a conventional simple...

Structural static and modal frequency simulations in a coffee harvester’s chassis AGRIAMBI
Silva,Evandro P. da; Silva,Fábio M. da; Andrade,Ednilton T. de; Magalhães,Ricardo R..
ABSTRACT Coffee harvesters are subject to stresses and vibrations in their structure, originating from engines and harvesting system. These structures must be designed to avoid rupturing of the components due to fragility of the materials, inadequate geometries, or the phenomenon of resonance, which increases the displacements/deformations of the components. In this scenario, the main objective of this study is to analyse the results of stresses and displacements from two static simulations and to present results of natural vibration frequencies from two modal simulations in a self-propelled coffee harvester. For this purpose, 20 modal shapes were generated, considering coffee harvester reservoir as empty and full. The simulations were carried out using...

Head loss in laser-perforated thin-walled polyethylene pipes for irrigation AGRIAMBI
Melo,Verônica G. M. L. de; Frizzone,José A.; Camargo,Antonio P. de; Bombardelli,Wagner W. Á..
ABSTRACT For reducing fixed and operational costs in pressurized irrigation systems, thin-walled polyethylene pipes with laser-perforated orifices are manufactured to operate under low pressure (up to 100 kPa). Hydraulic characterization of these materials is essential for designing irrigation systems. Considering the material elasticity and the thin wall thickness (about 200 μm), the internal diameter of these pipes may vary according to the operating pressure, resulting in changes of head losses. The purpose of this study was to analyze the head loss in flexible pipes with laser-perforated orifices, and to estimate the maximum length of laterals based on criteria of water distribution uniformity. Non-perforated pipe samples were tested to obtain...
