Toxicite de Detergents et d'un Dispersant sur Artemia salina Leach. ArchiMer
The authors study the toxic influence of 3 detergents (Tween 20 or Polysorbate 20, laurylsulfate of sodium, Secosyl or N-Lauroyl sarcosinate of sodium) and of a dispersent (Finasol OSR sub(2) or Dodecyl Sodium sulfate) on the hatching and the survival of the brine shrimp, (A. salina)). The determination of the DL sub(50) was effected after 24 h.

Toxicite aigue et effets subletaux, apres une courte exposition, de differents nonyphenols polyethoxyles sur la civelle. ArchiMer
Miossec, Laurence; Bocquene, Gilles.
The non-ionic surfactant group, polyethoxylated nonylphenols, show a toxicity to elvers in inverse relation to the number of ethylene oxide groups in the molecule. Their short-term effects on elver gills include much tissue disorganization and destruction.

Use of metabolism and swimming activity to evaluate the sublethal toxicity of surfactant (LAS-C12) on Mugil platanus BABT
Barbieri,Edison.
This study aimed to investigate the toxicological effects of the LAS-C12 on Mugil platanus (mullet). Fishes exposed to 1.0 mg.L-1 for 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours presented significant increase in specific routine metabolism. At the concentration of 0.5 mgL-1, the active metabolism presented a decreasing trend from 48 h of exposure on. However, only the consumption averages for 72 h were statistically different from the ones obtained for other periods of exposure. The lowest oxygen consumption in this concentration was observed for 24, 48 and 72 hours of exposure. Significant differences between the control and the concentration of 2.5 mgL-1 were observed for the different periods of exposure. It was not possible to measure the consumption of oxygen for 96...

A Novel Raw Starch Hydrolyzing Thermostable α-Amylase Produced by Newly Isolated Bacillus mojavensis SO-10: Purification, Characterization and Usage in Starch Industries BABT
Ozdemir,Sadin; Fincan,Sema Aguloglu; Karakaya,Adem; Enez,Baris.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study is the production, purification, and characterisation of thermostable raw starch hydrolyzing α-amylase produced by Bacillus mojavensis SO-10. The maximum production conditions of α-amylase were found at 36th hour, 35 °C and pH 7.0. We utilized three steps to purify the thermostable α-amylase and as a result, 34-fold and 18% yield were obtained. The molecular weight of purified α-amylase was determined as 73 kD. The Km and Vmax rates were detected as 0.010 mM and 3.38 µmol min−1, respectively. This purified α-amylase exhibited the highest activity at pH 5.0-6.0 and 70 ºC and showed stability over a wide variety of pH and temperature at 4.0-8.0, and 40-50 ºC, respectively. The thermostable purified α-amylase exhibited stability...

Characterization of alkaline lipase from Fusarium oxysporum and the effect of different surfactants and detergents on the enzyme activity BJM
Prazeres,Janaina Nicanuzia dos; Cruz,Juliana Aparecida Bortollotti; Pastore,Gláucia Maria.
Nowadays, there is a tendency of use of low temperature in laundry cleaning for both environmental and economical reasons, which makes the use of enzymes in detergent products indispensable. Since lipases are efficient catalyst both in solution and at the water-liquid interface, they are potentially suitable for lipid stain removal applications in industrial laundry and household detergents. The effect of different commercial detergents and surfactants on enzymatic activity of lipase from Fusarium oxysporum was observed through p-nitrophenylpalmitate (pNPP) assay. The enzyme was compatible with various ionic and non-ionic surfactants as well as commercial detergents. Lipase activity was strongly inhibited by Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (SDS), but not by Triton...

Studies on the stability of protease from Bacillus sp. and its compatibility with commercial detergent BJM
Nascimento,Wellingta Cristina Almeida do; Martins,Meire Lelis Leal.
Enzymes, and particularly proteases, have become an important and indispensable part of industrial processes such as laundry detergents, pharmaceuticals and food products. Detergents such as Tide®, Ariel® and Biz® contain proteolytic enzymes, most of them produced by members of the genus Bacillus. This paper describes the compatibility of protease produced by the thermophilic Bacillus sp, with commercial laundry detergent. Stability studies indicated that this enzyme retained about 95% and 74% of its maximum activity after 1h at 60ºC in the presence of glycine in combination with MnSO4 and CaCl2, respectively. No inhibitory effect was observed at 1.0-5.0 mM of EDTA. Triton X-100 inhibited the enzyme in all the concentrations tested. The enzyme was unstable...
