Última Estimating the public benefits of mitigating damages caused by invasive plant species in a subsistence economy AgEcon Rai, Rajesh Kumar; Scarborough, Helen. This paper presents analysis of a choice experiment (CE) designed to estimate willingness-topay (WTP) to mitigate damages caused by invasive plant species (IPS) in a rural community of Nepal. In order to address the cash constraints problem in a subsistence economy, two payment attributes, labor contribution and membership fee, were included in the choice sets. The results reveal that rural farmers have significant WTP for forest management activities, in terms of both cash and labor contributions. The results also suggest that rural farmers value their time in this context at a different rate to the current wage rate. This paper reports an exploratory case study on innovation in, and governance of, international supply chains originating in developing countries. Two African fruit export chains are analyzed: the table grape chain from South Africa (a highly developed chain) and the pineapple chain from Ghana (a newly emerging chain). The most important market for both chains is the EU. The two cases present complementary perspectives on international supply chain development. The paper shows that Western demands in these cases lead to innovation at the producer end of the international supply chain and changes in governance structures towards chain coordination and vertical integration. This paper inquires the effects of globalization on child labor in developing countries via cross-country analysis by decomposing globalization to its components; foreign direct investment (FDI) and trade. The findings reveal that the relationship between the child labor supply and gross domestic product per capita (PCGDP) can be expressed as a U shape. The study indicates that the child labor increases in the developing countries whose PCGDP levels are above $7500 since the net effect of globalization is positive for the positive substitution effect is bigger than the negative income effect. Data have been collected from UNICEF and World Bank.
