Spatial and Temporal Hydrochemical Variation of a Third Order River Network in a Quasi Pristine Coastal Watershed, at Southern Bahia, Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
SOUZA,ELLY R.S. DE; PAULA,FRANCISCO C.F. DE.
ABSTRACTRio da Serra watershed presents well preserved fragments of rain forest at the headwaters and small farms at middle and final stretches. These features allowed the study of fluvial hydrochemistry, under quasi pristine conditions. Sampling stations were established in order to represent the basin, and visited during dry, intermediate and wet periods. Obtained results are: temperature (22.1 – 28.6 °C); electric conductivity (34 – 52 µS-cm); dissolved oxygen (35 – 110%); pH (3.8 – 7.7); total suspended solids (1.1 – 20 mg-L); chlorophyll (1.0 – 9.2 µg-L); total N (74 – 580 µmol-L); particulate N (60 – 550 µmol-L); N-NO3 (0.1 – 9.3 µmol-L); dissolved organic N (4 -70 µmol-L); total phosphorous (5.3 – 47 µmol-L); particulate P (4.4 – 59 µmol-L); P-PO4...

N:Si:P atomic ratio in the Santa Cruz Channel, Itamaracá-PE (Northeast Brazil): a nyctemeral variation BABT
Montes,Manuel de Jesús Flores; Macêdo,Silvio José de; Koening,Maria Luise.
Studies were carried out on the Inlets of Orange and Catuama at the Santa Cruz Channel, Itamaracá-PE, in the rainy and dry seasons, in a nyctemeral cycle, and in a transversal profile, with intervals of three hours between collections. The objective was to determine the spacial and temporal variation of the N:Si:P atomic ratio, and its possible inter-relations and dependencies, as well as the influence of the hydrodynamism provoked by the variation of the tides at different times of the year. Nitrite-N and nitrate-N were higher in the rainy season, while ammonia-N, phosphate-P and silicate-Si were higher in the dry season, which indicated different results than previous studies. The N:P atomic ratio was lower than 16:1, in all seasons and stations, being...

Dissolved Nitrogen and Phosphorus Dynamics in the Lower Portion of the Paraiba do Sul River, Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil BABT
Silva,Mônica Aparecida Leite; Calasans,Claudia Ferreira; Ovalle,Alvaro Ramon Coelho; Rezende,Carlos Eduardo.
The Paraíba do Sul river lower reach was monitored monthly between August 1995 and July 1996. This study was aimed at evaluating the temporal dynamics of dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus and its main controlling factors. Minimum and maximum observed values were as follows: N-NO2- - 0.08/0.51; N-NO3- - 21/57; N-NH4+ - 1.4/6.7; DON - 4.9/86.0; DIN -24.5/60.9; P-PO4(3-) - 0.43/1.66; DOP - 0.05/0.92; pH - 6.2/7.8; Dissolved Oxygen - 6.4/10.1; Conductivity - 48/74; Temperature - 20.5/31.1 (Nutrients - µM; Dissolved Oxygen - mg/l; Conductivity - µS/cm; Temperature - °C). Discharge presented a characteristic seasonal variation, showing a peak in January. Increasing P-PO4(3-), DOP, N-NH4+ and N-NO2- concentrations with increasing discharges could be associated to...
