Mushrooms have been grown commercially on many different substrates for years, usually agricultural by-products such as straw or stover. Increased popularity for specialty mushrooms with consumers has led to increased production and great demand for economic substrates. Oyster mushrooms are easier to grow relative to other types of mushrooms and their production has increased dramatically in recent years. This study examines the economic feasibility of using soybean hulls as a primary substrate for oyster mushrooms, replacing traditional wheat straw. The study uses a cost-benefit analysis to determine an optimal substrate based on yield and the number of crops harvested per year. The study shows that soybean hulls, combined with corn gluten or... |

The energetic value as end product is among several benefits from effective waste management programs at intensive feedlots. It is increasing around the world since organic waste is a source of environmental pollution. The biogas can be obtained from simple to complex scale anaerobic digesters. Currently, there is in Mexico official instruments supporting clean technologies to promote the sustainable developing at regional levels. Based on Kyoto Protocol principles, Mexico has been promoting the emissions bonus to reduce the greenhouse gases such as methane from intensive feedlots. It is understood, that feedlots are a rich source of potential green energy. There are 58 000 milking cows in active production at Delicias, Chihuahua region, it is a potential... |

Increases in petroleum prices have affected the prices of its derived products. In addition, the interest in issues related to the environment and energy security at world-wide level has been increased. All of these factors have contributed to the development of alternative fuel such as the ethanol, biodiesel and natural gas. This study analyzes the main agricultural products used to produce biodiesel, their production costs and the utilization of those inputs in other industries. This study will also include a brief summary of different legislations in those countries under analysis. On the other hand, we will find break-even points and apply a sensibility analysis associated with distinct scenarios in terms of input-output prices. |
