Время переваривания пищи и интенсивность питания личинок гребневика Mnemiopsis leidyi A. Agassiz (Ctenophora, Lobata). IBSS Repository
Финенко, Г. А.; Павловская, Т. В.; Романова, З. А.; Аболмасова, Г. И.; Дацык, Н. А..

Population, Temperature and Feeding Rate Effects on Individual Feed Efficiency in European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) ArchiMer
Rodde, Charles; Vandeputte, Marc; Allal, Francois; Besson, Mathieu; Clota, Frederic; Vergnet, Alain; Benzie, John A. H.; De Verdal, Hugues.
Using breeding programs to improve feed efficiency, the ratio between fish body weight gain (BWG) and feed intake (FI), could increase aquaculture sustainability through reduced feed costs and environmental impact. To this end, individual phenotypic information is required. Individual FI can be measured by isolating each fish. Under these conditions, restricting the feeding rate has proved relevant to improve feed efficiency indirectly by selecting faster-growing animals. Moreover, a restricted feeding rate reduces the work load of collecting uneaten pellets after each meal. The approach assumes the most efficient fish at high and low feeding rates are the same, but this assumption remains untested. In European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), feed...

Feeding behavior of goat kids fed diets containing peach palm meal Animal Sciences
Pereira, Taiala Cristina de jesus; Ribeiro, Leandro Sampaio Oliveira; Pereira, Mara Lúcia Albuquerque; Pires, Aureliano José Vieira; Carvalho, Gleidson Giordano Pinto de; Pereira, César Augusto Ramos.
The aim in this study was to evaluate the feeding behavior of goat kids fed diets containing peach palm meal replacing corn (0, 10, 40, 60, and 85 % on a dry matter basis). Thirty crossbred Boer kids, with 90 days old and initial body weight of 16.7 ± 3.5 kg were distributed in a completely randomized design with six replicates. Diets were daily supplied ad libitum to allow 10-20 % leftovers. Three collections were performed every 28 days. Diets were isoenergetics and isonitrogenous, composed of corn, soybean meal, peach palm meal, mineral supplement and Tifton 85 hay, with roughage: concentrate ratio of 30:70. There was a linear reduction in the intakes of dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) with a respective decrease of 35.7 % and 58.8 %...

Assessment of the suitability of pineapple waste as feedstock for vermicomposting CIGR Journal
Miito, Gilbert John; Komakech, Allan John; Zziwa, Ahamada; Kiggundu, Nicholas; Kambugu, Robert.
Declining soil fertility is a challenge to sustainable agricultural production in sub-Saharan Africa with a case of Uganda. However, the large volumes of agricultural waste generated from pineapples can be converted into soil conditioners through vermicomposting. by the use of earthworms. Several types of agricultural waste have been studied extensively as vermicompost feedstock, but little work exists on pineapple waste. The objective of this study was to investigate the suitability of pineapple waste for vermicomposting. To achieve this, an assessment of the physicochemical properties of fresh, pre-composted pineapple waste, and the resultant vermicompost, and determination of the optimal feeding rate and stocking density were performed.  The study...

Behavior of tamarins, tanagers and manakins foraging in a strangler fig (Ficus sp.) in Suriname, South America: implications for seed dispersal Biota Neotropica
Vanderhoff,Elizabeth Natasha; Grafton,Brian.
The behavior of foragers can directly affect the dispersal of seeds. Strangler figs are keystone resources throughout the tropics and are important resources for both primates and birds. We examined the foraging behavior of golden-handed tamarins and four bird species in a strangler fig to see how these behaviors might affect the dispersal of fig seeds. Tamarins removed fruit at a faster rate than did any of the bird species examined. Additionally, tamarins tended to swallow figs whole whereas birds tended to drop figs once they were processed. Tamarins visiting fig trees ingest large quantities of fig seeds that may be deposited throughout the forest. Birds on the other hand tended to slowly process fruits near the fig tree and drop processed fruit...
