Le Maigre, Argyrosomus regius (Asso, 1801) (Pisces, Perciformes, Sciaenidae) du Golfe de Gascogne et des eaux plus septentrionales ArchiMer
Quero, Jean-claude; Vayne, Jean-jacques.
The meagre (Argyrosmus regius ) of Bay of Biscay is found along the coast and in the Gironde Estuary from spring to autumn, and in deeper waters during the cold season. It is never abundant at the north of the Pertuis charentais. The young individuals and adults do not have the same distribution. Spawning takes place between mid May and late July in the Gironde Estuary. The young fish feed on small crustaceans and the adults on pelagic fishes. Growth is rapid. The meagre emits loud grunts and the fishermen of the Gironde use these noises to locate the fish and to position their nets.

ArchiMer
Man-wai, Rabenevanana; Quignard, Jean-pierre.
Age and growth of seabream D. sargus in the Gulf of Lions (Mediterranean Sea) were examined using scale reading. Growth was expressed by the von Bertalanffy's equation based on the estimation of total lengths at the time of annual ring formation. The growth in weight and the length-weight relationship were calculated for both sexes separately and combined during and after spawning periods. Preliminary investigations on the characteristics of commercial catches (from Sete and Grau-du-Roi commercial fishing grounds) were also carried out.

Eggs and larvae of fishes and their role in systematic investigations in fisheries. ArchiMer
The stages of fishes that are discussed in this conference are those that are collected by hauling plankton nets in the oceans. These are the eggs, larvae and less frequently the juveniles of marine fishes. There are three principal reasons why ichthyoplankton surveys are made. Firstly, the surveys are often directed toward a single target species in order to use the distribution and abundance of the pelagic eggs to obtain an estimate of the biomass of the adult spawning population. Secondly, the larvae of a target species are studied in order to estimate the success of the year brood resulting from its spawn and hopefully to understand the factors underlying fluctuations in survival. The third reason is to use ichthyoplankton surveys to evaluate fish...

ArchiMer
Le Guen, Jean-claude; Chevalier, Robert.
All considerations about halieutic stocks inevitably had to attain the recognition of relations which are established between the resource and its natural environment. These phenomenons are exposed in the first part. About consequences of human interventions, both of these aspects must be taken into account: the introduction of new species and fishing. Second part deals with the use of models in stock management.

Marin, Jean.
The European red spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas) is the main target species of the small-scale fishery in Corsica. This fishery was described, its trends from 1981 to 1964 were analysed, and the exploitation conditions of the spiny lobster stock (fishing grounds, strategy and gear ; fishing regulations) were explained. Furthermore, the fishing effort and the yields were estimated through an indirect survey, in 1983 and 1984 . The growth was studied through tagging experiments. Growth increment per moult, Von BERTALANFFY's equation parameters, and moulting frequency were estimated for both sexes. Bias risks associated to tag loss at moulting were also analysed. In addition, estimates of K and L∞ variances were provided through "Jack-knife"...

Fonteneau, A.; Cayre, P..

Commercial catches of the crabe girafe, Ranina ranina in the Seychelles are analyses. Male crabs are dominant in the catch (65_310= male to 35_310= female) Large individuals present in the catch (exceeding 115mm) are all males. The size at first maturity for female crabs is 89.5mm. One spawning season is observed annually, around December Von Bertalanffy growth estimates obtained from length frequency data using the Hasselblad method to separate the modes followed by modal progressions, are as follows: Males: L oo = 160mm, k = 0.24 per year: Females: L oo = 137mm, k = 0.12 per year. Alternative estimates are also given using the Von, Bertalanffy equation assuming seasonally oscillating growth. The total mortality which corresponds to the natural mortality...

M´Bodj, O.B.; Wague, A..

Results of a spiny lobster survey around Mahe Island during September and October 1991 OceanDocs
Bautil, B.R.R..
Spiny lobster fishing in the Seychelles is an artisanal done essentially by skin divers operating at night in the shallow waters surrounding by the islands. Because of human population distribution lobster fishing grounds are concentrated on the inner granitic islands. In September 1992, a random stratified samoling program was set up to gather biological information from the entire granitic Mahe plateau. Direct census of fishery resources by Scuba divers swimming underwater transects was selected as the most feasible and expedient means by which to enact the Resource Survey. This report present partial result gathered for the survey around Mahe Island only and provides an estimate of the Maximum sustainable yield for the granitic plateau by extrapolation...

Morsan, E..
The purple clam, Amiantis purpurata, inhabits the warm-temperate waters of the southwestern Atlantic, from Espírito Santo (Brazil) to the San Matías Gulf (Argentina). There are no previous studies dealing with its biology and populations dynamics. Astock located in Playa Villarino (San Antonio Este, San Matías Gulf) supports the only artisanal fishery targeting this species. Some peculiar aspects of its dynamics revealed by this study have significant implications for management: 1. It constitutes the southernmost population of this species, and appears to be isolated from other populations located to the north 2. Individuals are slow-growing 3. It seems to be composed of just one or a few annual classes, which are older than 10 years . 4. The spatial...

Bonamia sp. (Protozoa, Haplosporidia) parásito de Ostrea puelchana D’Orbigny, (Mollusca, Bivalvia) en el Golfo San Matías (Patagonia Argentina): Histopatología, identificación e infección OceanDocs
Kroeck, M.A..
