A hitherto unnoticed adaptive radiation: epitoniid species (Gastropoda: Epitoniidae) associated with corals (Scleractinia) Naturalis
Gittenberger, A.; Gittenberger, E..
Twenty-two epitoniid species that live associated with various hard coral species are described. Three genera, viz. Epidendrium gen. nov., Epifungium gen. nov., and Surrepifungium gen. nov., and ten species are introduced as new to science, viz. Epidendrium aureum spec. nov., E. sordidum spec. nov., Epifungium adgranulosa spec. nov., E. adgravis spec. nov., E. adscabra spec. nov., E. marki spec. nov., E. nielsi spec. nov., E. pseudolochi spec. nov., E. pseudotwilae spec. nov., Surrepifungium patamakanthini spec. nov., and ‘Epitonium’ crassicostatum spec. nov. and ‘E.’ graviarmatum spec. nov. Although their identities as separate gene pools are convincingly demonstrated by molecular data, some of these species cannot be identified unequivocally on the basis...

First Indonesian record of Fungiacava eilatensis Goreau et al., 1968 (Bivalvia: Mytilidae), endosymbiont of Fungia spp. (Scleractinia: Fungiidae) Naturalis
Hoeksema, B.W.; Achituv, Y..
The mytilid bivalve Fungiacava eilatensis Goreau, Goreau, Neumann & Yonge, 1968, previously mistakenly referred to as F. eilatensis Soot-Ryen, 1969, is reported for the first time from Indonesia. It lives as an obligate endosymbiont of mushroom corals, particulary Fungia spp., reef-dwelling corals restricted to the tropical Indo-Pacific. Notes are given on its association with different host species, its habitat, its biogeography, and its possible competition with endosymbiotic gastropods belonging to the genus Leptoconchus (Coralliophilidae).

Fungia (Verrillofungia) Spinifer spec. nov., a new Scleractinian Coral (Fungiidae) from the Indo-Malayan region Naturalis
Claereboudt, M.; Hoeksema, B.W..
Summary: A new Fungia species from the Bismarck Sea is described and its taxonomic position is discussed. INTRODUCTION The Fungiidae have an important place among Indo-Pacific scleractinian reef corals. Many nominal species have been described in this family, but only about 40 of them proved to be valid (Hoeksema, in prep.) which is roughly 10% of the total number of living Indo-Pacific reef coral species. Only a few of these species do not occur in the central part of the Indo-Pacific, or more specifically the Indo-Malayan Region. The new species has been collected by both authors from different locations in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. In the most recent generic revision of the Fungiidae, the genera Fungia Lamarck, 1801 and Cycloseris Milne Edwards...

Historical biogeography of Fungia (Pleuractis) spp. (Scleractinia: Fungiidae), including a new species from the Seychelles Naturalis
Hoeksema, B.W..
An update of the phylogeny and biogeography of mushroom coral species belonging to Fungia (Pleuractis) is presented. Among the five species of this monophyletic group, one is described as new to science. This species, Fungia seychellensis spec, nov., was discovered during the Netherlands Seychelles Expedition (1992-1993) in the framework of the Netherlands Indian Ocean Programme 1990/1995.
