| Abstract. Costalimaita ferruginea (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) is the main Coleoptera defoliator of eucalyptus in Brazil and has a strong association with plants of the family Myrtaceae, bein the eucalyptus important for the sectors of energy, paper, pulp and furniture industry. The objective of the present study was to record the occurrence of this Chrysomelidae in eucalyptus plants in Sinop, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, during the months of November 2010 to January 2011, thus contributing to increase in knowledge on the geographic distribution of this insect and also hypothesize that the Coleoptera may soon become a major pest of eucalyptus in the state of Mato Grosso. | The ostracode assemblages from Cananéia-Iguape estuarine/lagoon system (southernmost State of São Paulo) are here discussed in detail for the first time. Thirty-four sites, approximately 1 km equidistant, were sampled along the system, including the Cananéia Sea, Pequeno Sea, Cubatão Sea, Ribeira de Iguape River and Itapitangui River. The ostracodes throughout this area have poor assemblages, with a total of 662 specimens of dead and living organisms. | A produtividade de diversas culturas depende, em grande parte, de fatores climáticos como precipitação, radiação solar e temperatura. Na maior parte do Brasil, o regime de chuvas praticamente determina a disponibilidade de água no solo. A adoção de sistemas de irrigação, como o controlado por meio de pivô central, tem possibilitado um aumento considerável de produtividade e a extensão do período apto para o plantio de culturas agrícolas, como a soja, o milho e o feijão. | The evolution of 2 spp belonging to the gen Tripterygion and some spp of the gen Blennius is discussed. Tripterygion tripteronotus and T. xanthosoma have very similar morphological characters yet live in 2 distinct niches. This probably results from 2 separate immigrations into the Mediterranean at different eras after the glacial age. After establishing reproductive barriers these populations would have evolved into 2 distinct spp. In contrast the spp of the gen Blennius were endemic in the Mediterranean and their evolution must have taken place after the end of the glacial age. | Sagitta lucida is a large chaetognath (max. length = 36mm), characterized by a transparent and flaccid body, a collarette restricted to the neck region, long anterior fins, narrow and rayless on their anterior two-thirds, and ovoid seminal vesicles. Sagitta adenensis , another large species (length = 32 mn), with also a flaccid body, has a collarette, anterior teeth nearly as numerous as posterior ones, lateral fins with rays only on the outer edge. The two specimens have been caught in a trawl from a depth of 400 m, near Djibouti. |
