On the female sex of some elusive South-American Gomphidae with the descriptions of three new genera and four new species (Odonata) Naturalis

Females of some South-American Gomphidae are recorded. Anomalophlebia nitida gen. nov. et spec. nov. ( ♀ holotype: Venezuela, State of Bolivar, Los Pijiguasos), Praeviogomphus proprius gen. nov. et spec. nov. ( ♀ holotype: Brazil, State of Rio de Janeiro, Itatiaya), Brasiliogomphus uniseries gen. nov. et spec. nov. ( ♀ holotype: Brazil, State of São Paulo, Lins) and Idiogomphoides emmeli spec. nov. ( ♀ holotype: Brazil, State of Rondônia, Rio Pardo) are described and illustrated. A syntype female of Agriogomphus sylvicola Selys is designated as lectotype. The new species Phyllogomphoides spiniventris spec. nov., P. suspectus spec. nov. and P. pseudangularis spec. nov. are described and illustrated. The male of P. calverti is discussed and figured. The hitherto unknown male of P. praedatrix is described. A key to the South-American species of Phyllogomphoides is added.

The species P. angeloi spec. nov. (♂ holotype: State of Amazonas, Tefé), P. basalis spec. nov. (♂ holotype: State of Minas Gerais, Porto Cabral), P. bidentatus spec. nov. (♂ holotype: State of São Paulo, Lins), P. microcephalus spec. nov. (♂ holotype: probably south-eastern part of Brazil) and the hitherto unknown female of P. nigellus Belle are described and illustrated. A key to the Brazilian species of Progomphus is added.

A revision of the South American species of Aphylla Selys, 1854 (Odonata: Gomphidae) Naturalis

A revision is given of the 16 recognized South American species of the New World genus Aphylla Selys. Three new species are described and figured, viz. A. scapula (♂ holotype; Brazil, Territorio de Rondônia, Fazenda Rancho Grande), A. silvatica (♂ holotype: Ecuador, Provincia Napo, Limoncocha) and A. spinula (♂ holotype: Perú, Departamento de Cuzco, Río Urubamba). A. obscura (Kirby, 1899) and A. albinensis Belle, 1970, are considered junior synonyms of A. tenuis Selys, 1859, and A. brevipes Selys, 1854, respectively, while A. simulata Belle, 1964, is considered a synonym of A. dentata Selys, 1859. Separate identification keys to the males and the females of the South American species of Aphylla are provided.

Higher classification of the South-American Gomphidae (Odonata) Naturalis

The adults and larvae of the South-American Gomphidae are classified. Keys to the subfamilies and tribes are constructed followed by tribal descriptions and descriptive notes. The existing classification is revised as follows: - Octogomphinae comb. nov.: Hemigomphini (Neogomphus, Praeviogomphus), Anomalophlebiini trib. nov. (Anomalophlebia); - Onychogomphinae: Onychogomphini (Erpetogomphus); - Epigomphinae: Archaeogomphini (Archaeogomphus), Agriogomphini trib. nov.
