Comments on the type specimen of Dracaena guianensis Daudin, 1801 (Reptilia: Sauria: Teiidae), and rediscovery of the species in French Guiana Naturalis
Massary, J.-C. de; Hoogmoed, M.S.; Blanc, M..
A discussion on the whereabouts of the holotype of Dracaena guianensis is given, and its rediscovery in the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, The Netherlands (RMNH) and the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Anatomie Comparée, Paris, France (MNHN-AC) is reported. The RMNH possesses a stuffed specimen, of which the left forelimb has been amputated in life and of which the skull is no longer present in the specimen. The Paris museum possesses a skull that fits the Leiden specimen. Thus, the stuffed specimen and the skull together form the complete holotype, each object can be considered a “schizotype” of the holotype. After one of us observed the species again in French Guiana and documented this with a picture, the correction of the type...

Notes on types and early specimens of Bombycivora japonica von Siebold, 1824, and of Bombycilla phoenicoptera Temminck, 1828 Naturalis
Oijen, M.J.P. van; Roselaar, C.S..
Roselaar & Prins (2000) indicated there were two syntypes of Bombycivora japonica von Siebold, 1824; a 1st-winter female in the collection of the Zoologisch Museum Amsterdam, while the other, a male, was considered lost. However, in a letter to Temminck, von Siebold made clear that the species was described on the basis of one specimen. His description is clearly taken from a 1st-year male. Temminck (1828) described Bombicilla phoenicoptera based on the same ZMA specimen and an adult female specimen in the National Museum of Natural History in Leiden, collected by von Siebold, which arrived in Leiden in 1827. The latter species is a synonym of the former. Because it is a female, the ZMA specimen cannot be the holotype of Bombycivora japonica. However,...

Has one of Captain Cook’s possums landed in Leiden? The possible holotype of Pseudocheirus peregrinus (Boddaert, 1785) Naturalis
Smeenk, C..
The identity of an old female specimen of Pseudocheirus peregrinus (Boddaert, 1785) in the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, is discussed and the early descriptions and nomenclatural history of the species are reviewed. The assumption by Temminck (1824) and Jentink (1888) that the animal originated from one of Cook’s expeditions is extensively considered, since in that case it would be the holotype of Didelphis peregrinus Boddaert, 1785 and of some objective synonyms. The documentation of the specimen is insufficient to draw a definitive conclusion. However, the damage to the facial skin of the animal collected at Endeavour River in 1770 mentioned by Pennant (1781) would agree with the state of the Leiden specimen, which must have been badly...

Redescription of Leptophis Cupreus (Cope) (Serpentes, Colubridae), a rare south American Colubrine Snake Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Albuquerque,Nelson R. de; McDiarmid,Roy W..
Leptophis cupreus is redescribed on the basis of 18 specimens, including the holotype. The species is characterized by having a uniformly copper-colored dorsum, which distinguishes it from all other known species of Leptophis. We present photographs of the holotype and a living specimen of L. cupreus, describe and illustrate the everted hemipenis, and plot its known distribution.

On the taxonomic status of Nephochaetopteryx calida (Wiedemann) (Diptera, Sarcophagidae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Carvalho Filho,Fernando da Silva; Esposito,Maria Cristina; Mello-Patiu,Cátia Antunes de.
On the taxonomic status of Nephochaetopteryx calida (Wiedemann) (Diptera, Sarcophagidae). Based on analysis of the holotype of Nephochaetopteryx calida (Wiedemann) it was concluded that this species does not belong to Nephochaetopteryx. The holotype is a female partly damaged and it was not possible to place it in one of Sarcophaginae genera, remaining as Sarcophaga calida Wiedemann, 1830, incertae sedis.

Notes on the holotype of Anopheles marajoara Galvão & Damasceno (Diptera, Culicidae) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Senise,Luana; Motoki,Maysa Tiemi; Sallum,Maria Anice Mureb.
During studies on the dynamics of malaria transmission in Marajó Island, State of Pará, Brazil, Galvão & Damasceno (1942) collected a single specimen of a new species that they named Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) marajoara Galvão & Damasceno, 1942. Now, examining genitalia slide associated to the holotype, we observed that the ventral claspette of the male genitalia is distinct from those of all other species of the Argyritarsis Section and consequently from members of the complex Anopheles albitarsis Lynch Arribalzaga, 1878. The male genitalia of the slide belong to a specimen of Anopheles aquasalis Curry, 1932, nevertheless, it was originally labeled as Anopheles marajoara. To solve this problem, we are setting aside the male genitalia slide...

A catalogue of the type specimens of Heteroptera (Insecta) housed at the Instituto Fundación Miguel Lillo (Tucumán, Argentina) Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
MELO,María C.; ZAMUDIO,María P.; DELLAPÉ,Pablo M..
This catalogue contains information about the type material of the suborder Heteroptera housed at the Entomological Collection of the Instituto Fundación Miguel Lillo (IFML-Tucumán, Argentina). We listed 60 holotypes and 453 paratypes belonging to 20 families, and three species and one subspecies that were not found in the collection but, according the original description, should be deposited in IFML. Finally, we listed 15 species that are labeled and coded as types but that are no part of the original type series. Nevertheless, they were included in this contribution because the associated information could be useful for future taxonomic research.
