Parasitic fauna in hybrid tambacu from fish farms PAB
Silva,Ronilson Macedo; Tavares-Dias,Marcos; Dias,Maycon Willian Reis; Dias,Márcia Kelly Reis; Marinho,Renata das Graças Barbosa.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the parasitic fauna of hybrid tambacu (Colossoma macropomum x Piaractus mesopotamicus) from fish farms and the host-parasite relationship. A hundred and fourteen fish were collected from four fish farms in Macapá, in the state of Amapá, Brazil, 80.7% of which were infected by: Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ciliophora); Piscinoodinium pillulare (Dinoflagellida); Anacanthorus spatulatus, Notozothecium janauachensis, and Mymarothecium viatorum (Monogenoidea); Neoechinorhynchus buttnerae (Acanthocephala); Cucullanus colossomi (Nematoda); Perulernaea gamitanae (Lernaeidae); and Proteocephalidae larvae (Cestoda). A total of 8,136,252 parasites were collected from the examined fish. This is the first record of N....

Ácaros plumícolas em aves Passeriformes da Zona da Mata Norte de Pernambuco, Brasil Zoologia
Roda,Sônia Aline; Farias,Ângela Maria Isidro de.
Studies were carried out on the relationship between feather mites in wild birds captured by mist nets at the Engenho Independência, county of Vicência. The captures were performed in June, September and December (1995) and March (1996). Mites belonging to the families: Analgidae, Psoroptoididae, Avenzoariidae, Proctophyllodidae e Trouessartiidae were identified to genera. The most representative genera, according to the number of hosts they were found were Pterodectes sp. (Proctophyllodidae), with eighteen and Trouessartia sp. (Trouessartiidae), with sixteen hosts, respectively. The Psoroptoididae and Avenzoariidae families were found in only one host each. The ventral face of remiges and rectrices were the main sites inhabited by mites.

Hippoboscidae (Diptera, Hippoboscoidea) no Estado do Paraná, Brasil: chaves de identificação, hospedeiros e distribuição geográfica Zoologia
Graciolli,Gustavo; Carvalho,Claudio José Barros de.
A survey of the louse flies species (Diptera, Hippoboscidae) in the State of Paraná, Brazil was carried out. Keys to eight genera and 15 species found are given. The following species are recorded for the first time in Paraná: Lipoptena (Lipoptenella) guimaraesi Bequaert, 1957; Stipolmetopoda legtersi Bequaert, 1955; Icosta (Ornithopomus) latifacies Bequaert, 1955; Icosta (Ornithpomus) rufiventris (Bigot, 1885); Icosta (Ardmoeca) albipennis (Say, 1823) and Olfersia bisulcata Macquart, 1847. Baryphthengus ruficapillus (Vieillot, 1818) (Momotidae) and Ciccaba virgata Carbin, 1849 (Strigidae) are new host records for Ornithoica vicina (Walker, 1849) and I. (Ardmoeca) albipennis; Chiroxiphia caudata (Shaw, 1793) and Schiffornis virescens (Lafresnaye, 1838)...

Associations between chewing lice (Insecta, Phthiraptera) and albatrosses and petrels (Aves, Procellariiformes) collected in Brazil Zoologia
Valim,Michel P.; Raposo,Marcos A.; Serra-Freire,Nicolau M..
Chewing lice were searched on 197 skins of 28 species of procellariiform birds collected in Brazil. A total of 38 species of lice were found on 112 skins belonging to 22 bird species. The lice were slide-mounted and identified. A list of lice species found and their host species is given and some host-louse associations are discussed under an evolutionary perspective.

Infracommunities of bat flies (Diptera: Streblidae and Nycteribiidae) of bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera) in three conservation units in the State of Amapá, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Hrycyna,Gabriela; Martins,Ana Carolina Moreira; Graciolli,Gustavo.
Abstract: Diptera belonging to the families Nycteribiidae and Streblidae are hematophagous ectoparasites, exclusively of bats. The Amapá State is located in the North Region of Brazil. The Amapá represents one of with the lowest rates of deforestation in the country, with approximately 80% of the territory preserved. Within the State, there are conservation units, Floresta Nacional do Amapá (FNA), Parque Nacional Montanhas do Tumucumaque (PNMT) and Reserva de desenvolvimento Sustentável do Rio Iratapurú (RDSI). These areas represent priority areas for the Conservation of Amazonian Biodiversity. Recently in Amapá studied on the diversity and distribution of bats, however, there are no records of associated arthropod ectoparasites. Therefore, the objective...

Streblid bat flies (Diptera) and other ectoparasites on bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera) from French Guiana Biota Neotropica
Graciolli,Gustavo; Guerrero,Ricardo; Catzeflis,Francois.
Abstract: Recent field surveys of bats (Chiroptera) in various localities of French Guiana have been accompanied by the collection and preservation of ectoparasites, mainly bat flies (Diptera: Streblidae and Nycteribiidae). Most specimens of ectoparasites was collected haphazardly during the course of bats inventories, but systematic surveys on the whole chiropteran community were realized at five opportunities. Concerning Streblidae, 813 individuals have been examined, which represent 46 species and/or subspecies belonging to 15 genera and 6 taxa for confirmation and/or future description. For Nycteribiidae, 44 individuals of 3 identified species and 2 for confirmation and/or future description. Other ectoparasites have been found (Hemiptera and acarids),...

The influence of starvation and Eurytrema coelomaticum infection on the nitrogenous products of degradation in the hemolymph of Bradybaena similaris BABT
Souza,Rosana M. de; Gomes,Edna M.; Chagas,Generoso M.; Pinheiro,Jairo.
The urea and uric acid contents in the hemolymph of Bradybaena similaris were analyzed under starvation and Eurytrema coelomaticum infection during 30 days. The urea and uric acid contents in the uninfected and fed snails were 15.090 mg/dl and 9.399 mg/dl, respectively, being the urea/uric acid ratio 1.6. The urea content in starved snails increased to a maximum of 363.237 mg/dl at 15 days, and the uric acid varied to a maximum of 11.470 mg/dl. The urea content in infected snails was reduced to a minimum of 2.123 mg/dl at 30 days of infection and the uric acid increased significatively at 25 days post exposure, being 13.820 mg/dl. A significative relation was not observed between the time of starvation and time of E. coelomaticum infection and the uric...
