L'induction hormonale de la ponte à l'aide de la LH-RH chez l' ombrine, Sciaenops ocellatus. Mise en évidence des conditions optimales pour la production d'oeufs et de larves de qualité 5
Gardes, Lionel.
20 and 50 µg.kg·1 doses of [D Trp6] LH-RHa analogue proved to be effective in inducing and synchronising spawns in red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus, in the French West Indies tropical conditions. The study of oocyte development through steady ovarian biopsies allowed to carry out injections at different stages. The influence of female ovarian development state at stimulation time on further development is shown. Phase C of germinal vesicle migration stage was identified as an optimum for successful stimulations. An interesting potential of successive stimulations leading to good quality spawns is established and the factors of success identified. The present work shows the  nterest of combined use of multivariate analyses and one way analyse of variance for...

Induced spawning of red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus: use of multivariate and univariate analysis methods in the search for side effects of LH-RHa treatments and ovarian development state upon spawn quality 5
Gardes, Lionel; Villanove, Philippe; Buchet, Vincent; Fauvel, Christian.
The present work examines the usefulness of the combination of multivariate analyses and further one-way analysis of variance in the search for links between causes and effects in heterologous stimulation of spawning in fish. Stimulations with both 20 and 50 mu g . kg(-1) doses of [D Trp(6)] luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogue (LH-RHa) were effective in inducing and synchronizing spawning of red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus. Oocyte development monitoring using ovarian biopsy allowed treatment injections at different stages of maturation. The influence at stimulation time of female oocyte development state upon further development was shown. An interesting potential of second stimulation, leading to high quality spawns, was established and factors...

Hormone-induced spawning of cultured tropical finfishes. 5
Marte, C.
Commercially important tropical freshwater and marine finfishes are commonly spawned with pituitary homogenate, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and semi-purified fish gonadotropins. These preparations are often administered in two doses, a lower priming dose followed a few hours later by a higher resolving dose. Interval between the first and second injections may vary from 3-24 hours depending on the species. Variable doses are used even for the same species and may be due to variable potencies of the gonadotropin preparations.

Snook (Centropomidae) and grouper (Serranidae) mariculture in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Basin 5
Roberts Jr, D.
Centropomidae and Serranidae, sometimes collectively misnamed "sea basses", are suitable for aquaculture in pens, ponds, and raceways around the tropical and subtropical latitudes of the world. Western Atlantic Ocean species were recently considered for farming. South Florida, Mexico, Central and South America and the Antilles areas of the Caribbean Basin have extensive areas suitable for farming groupers and snook. Principal species of interest are the common snook (Centropomus undecimalis ), the fat snook (C. parallelus ), the Nassau grouper (Epinephelus striatus ), Black seabass (Centropristis striatus ), Gag (Mycteroperca microlepis ), and jewfish (E. itajara ).

Induction of ovulation and stimulation of spermation by LHRH or an LHRH analog associated or not with pimozide. Effects on some teleost fish. 5
Billard, R; Weil, C; Barnabe, G.
Effectiveness of LHRH and one of its analogs (LHRH-A = D-Ala super(6) ethylamide) on induction of ovulation and stimulation of spermiation is reviewed here. LHRH was also combined with pimozide, an anti-dopaminergic agent, to try to cancel dopamine inhibition of gonatotropin (GtH) release. LHRH-A alone (50 mu g/kg) did not initiate ovulation but only oocyte maturation. When pimozide (10 mg/kg) and LHRH-A (50 mu g/kg) were combined, gonadotropic hormone secretion was significantly increased, causing ovulation and stimulating spermiation. This combination advanced ovulation in trout. Trout egg quality was markedly altered by the pimozide treatment; it remains to be tested in carp. In sea bass, LHRH-A was much more effective than LHRH, and ovulation was...

Contribution a l'etude de l'elevage de la crevette rose Palaemon serratus (Pennant) en captivite. 5
Campillo, Albert.
The growth of post-larval P. serratus has been studied until the appearance of secondary sexual characters, in order to eliminate the influence of sex ratio on the mean wt. The influence of temp on intermolt period and number of molts was observed in male and female kept individually. Different sorts of food of natural origin have been tested. The rearing of post-larval lots metamorphosed at different times of the yr showed that the growth of P. serratus is conditioned not only by the temp, but also by the season. The food conversion ratio was defined in relation to the sex and age of the prawns. Shelters allowed the author to obtain a ratio of survival which varied post-larvae per square meter. The sex ratio established from several breedings as soon as...

Broodstock management and induced spawning of flounder Paralichthys orbignyanus (Valenciennes, 1839)under a closed recirculated system 20
Bambill, G.A.; Oka, M.; Radonic, M.; López, A.V.; Müller, M.I.; Boccanfuso, J.; Bianca, F..
The present study was conducted to determine the parameters regulating spawning performance of P. orbignyanus wild broodstock. The adaptation to captivity was successfully achieved with minimal stress levels. In three consecutive spawning seasons, the annual photothermal manipulation was not effective for the maturation and natural spawning of females although males were running. Females were HCG injected, releasing non fertilized eggs. Artificial fertilization was carried out after stripping the fish with a total production of 18,000 fertilized eggs in 2001 (egg diameter=800±10 µm), 55,300 in 2002 (egg diameter= 850±12 µm)and 1,635,000 fertilized eggs in 2003 (egg diameter 818.4 ±30.08 µm, oil drop 98.1 ±2.96 µm). For the study of the ovulationtime,...

(n-3) HUFA composition of freshly spawned eggs from European seabass (<i>Dicentrarchus labrax</i>), seabream (<i>Sparus aurata</i>) and red seabream (<i>Pagrus major</i>) collected in different hatcheries 27
Komis, A.; Léger, P.; Sorgeloos, P..
The biochemical composition of fish eggs is often used as an indicator for assessing the nutritional requirements of aquaculture species during their larval stages. Fatty acids of the (n-3) HUFA type have proven to play a critical role in providing good growth, survival and stress resistance in marine fish larvae. Hence, analyzing these fatty acids in fish eggs may provide interesting data on the requirements for those essential nutrients. By comparing the analyses of wild versus broodstock fish eggs differences may appear, possibly explaining differences in egg quality. Intra-spawning-season differences may further appear by following fatty acid profiles in the course of time. Finally, the influence of broodstock nutritionon egg composition may be another...
