Interbular space characterization in adult capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) testis BABT
Paula,Tarcízio Antônio Rego de; Matta,Sérgio Luiz Pinto da; Silva Jr.,Valdemiro Amaro da; Costa,Deiler Sampaio; Fonseca,Cláudio Cesar; Neves,Marco Túlio David das.
This study aimed at the qualitative and quantitative characterization of the different intertubular tissue components in adult male capybara. Testes of 15 adult capybaras from a commercial slaughterhouse of wild animals were used. The average percentage of Leydig cells was 32.95 ± 10.03 %, whereas in the other components of the intertubular space it was 14.95 ± 4.79 %, thus the whole intertubular space totalized 47.91 ± 11.48 %. The average weight of the testes were 32.83 ± 4.78g, while the animals' body weight were around 52.37 kg and the gonadosomatic and leydigosomatic indexes were 0.125 ± 0.02% and 0.0411 ± 0.0148% respectively. It was concluded that the leydigosomatic index of the capybaras was lower than the one observed in rats, as well as the...

Testicular morphology of adult wistar rats treated with Rudgea viburnoides (Cham.) Benth. leaf infusion BABT
Monteiro,Juliana Castro; Matta,Sérgio Luis Pinto da; Predes,Fabrícia Souza; Paula,Tarcízio Antônio Rego de.
The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of Rudgea viburnoides infusion on the body biometry and testicular morphometry and stereology of adult Wistar rats. Two groups received the infusion daily at the concentration of 3 or 6 mg/mL for 40 days. The control group received only water. Neither the biometrical parameters nor the tubular diameter and the height of the seminiferous epithelium showed any significant alterations in the treated animals. Leydig cells stereology did not show any significant alterations in the treated animals. These results indicated that R. viburnoides did not cause alterations in body biometry and testicular morphometry.

Plasma and testicular testosterone levels, volume density and number of Leydig cells and spermatogenic efficiency of rabbits BJMBR
Castro,A.C.S.; Berndtson,W.E.; Cardoso,F.M..
Plasma and tissue testosterone concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay in 12 eight-month-old sexually mature New Zealand White rabbits and evaluated for possible associations with spermatogenic efficiency as well as with volume density and number of Leydig cells. Testicular tissue was processed histologically and histometry was performed in order to quantify germ cells, Sertoli cells and Leydig cells. Spermatogenic efficiency, reported as the ratios among germ cells (spermatogonia, primary spermatocytes and round spermatids) and by the ratio of germ cells to Sertoli cells, was not associated with testosterone levels. However, Leydig cell parameters such as number of Leydig cells per gram of testis, total number of Leydig cells per testis and...
